I always take my wheels for new tyres, always get the quote for tyre, fitting, and balancing before i order. i watch them do the job, I think the most i ever paid for my tyres (Maxi Scoot) was £56.

twas thinking... check to make sure its on the right way round...
the tread patern's direction may make a difference from 'dispersal' to 'pick up'
when viewed from the rear the tyre tread pattern should be more /\ so the first contact on rotation pushes any water out from ther centre and back...
rather than \/ which would tend to try and hold any water in the tread...

i'm coming up for a new rear tyre..on my sym..what are the citygrips like...as standard ones have only lasted 4000 miles..lol

My SYM GTS 250 currently has a pair of City Grips and they are great! The original maxxis tyres on mine didn't last for long. The rear was worn out by 3000miles! The front lasted for 6000miles. I had Sava diamonds on the rear twice, never had any trouble with them. They didn't cost much and lasted around 5000miles each. Had an Avon on front - that was sh!t and dangerous! Then a Conti twist - I didn't like that either. Decided to try city grips for a change just waiting now to see how long they last...

I've tried for a couple of weeks to get a rear City Grip for my Honda PCX, but no one seems to have any stock. I've ben quoted £65-£70 for supply, fit and VAT. Honda Chiswick quoted £85, but their service (customer service as well as the service they carried out on my scoot) is great. Very friend'y people.

I've had no luck in getting hold of a Michelin City Grip for my PCX, so I've gone for a Dunlop Scootsmart. And that was the last one the scooter shop had as well! Has anyone had Dunlop fitted to their machine?

I had the tyre fitted at Burwin, Essex Road, Islington, N1. Friendly guys, small workshop with a sales shop next door which had some Peugeots on display, although the guy who served me said that some Peugeots are generally rebadged Chinese scoots held together by cheese! He was pointing at a Peugeot V-Clic when he made that statement.

He pointed to a large cardboard display for a Peugeot Kisbee, saying he had never seen the scoot or had any further information from Peugeot about it. I asked him about the forthcoming Peugeot Metropolis (3 wheel scoot due later this year), and he said he'd never heard of it.
He did recommend a Honda SH300 as the best 300cc scoot on the market. He didn't have much of a good word to say for my PCX or SYMs (based on his anecdotal experience). I have to say that my PCX has been very reliable since I've had it (Sept 2011), but the stock tyres and service schedule (every 6 months/2,500 miles) is inconvenient and expensive.

I've got the ScootSmarts on my Tmax, though I guess since mine are radials and I presume the PCX takes crossplys there may be little resemblance between them!! On the Tmax, they have been pretty good actually - good grip in dry, wet and damp. Slightly different feel to the normal B.stones - I've put a little more pressure into the front to give a slightly more positive feel. Dunno why but with the ScootSmart, it feels like I've got a smaller rear wheel than before! Makes no sense I know! As I think someone else mentioned they seem slightly more upset by catseyes and other bands and ridges in the road. No idea how long they'll last yet. So overall pretty good, especially being 25% cheaper than the standard Bridgestones!

Thanks for that MrGrumpy... My tyre was the same price as the Michelin: £65, which was the cheapest quoted.

I like city grips, I fitted them to my tmax and they did not need much weight to balance them. nice thing about a tmax is two bolts for the rear calliper, wheel spindle pulled out and off comes the wheel, makes life easy. The front is a doddle, just pull the spindle out. I will try the SC next as the centre of the tread is a harder compound but hope that will be a long way away
