The motor is anything but lumpy and certainly isn't shit either. They are selling very well indeed and the DCT version is also doing better than Honda expected.gn2 wrote: and a lumpy pile of shit motor.

I like it, it's a good engine, powerful enough and economical.wozza wrote:The motor is anything but lumpy and certainly isn't shit either. They are selling very well indeed and the DCT version is also doing better than Honda expected.gn2 wrote: and a lumpy pile of shit motor.
The faired version looks like my cup of tea

I think Honda are really to be applauded by trying these different designs even if not all of them work, it's so much better than the same old shite pumped out by their competitors and will push motorcyling design forward

But its only a half fairing though - if they put the Integra fairing on a 700X, then I might be interested.rtfm wrote:The faired version looks like my cup of tea![]()
Incidentally, I read that production of the Deauville has ceased - I wonder if one of these N700 models is supposed to replace it, or if not, what?

The engine has a 270 crank and this configuration was deliberately chosen to produce vibration.wozza wrote:The motor is anything but lumpy and certainly isn't shit either.
In my book this is utterly inexcusable, everything possible should be done to eliminate or at least isolate any engine vibration.
If you and the many people who have bought NCs are prepared to accept shoddy design then that's OK, but from a purely technical standpoint the thing could have been significantly better.
Sales figures are not a reliable guide to quality of engineering and design, only an indicator of popularity.

I thought it was rather odd that the video said how smooth the engine was, when it has a 270 degree crank which was meant to give an impression of vibes!gn2 wrote:The engine has a 270 crank and this configuration was deliberately chosen to produce vibration.wozza wrote:The motor is anything but lumpy and certainly isn't shit either.
I haven't ridden the N700 series, but I did ride the BMW C600 which has a similar crank. I found the vibes on that a bit irritating at low speeds, though none were apparent at speed - and it did make a wonderful noise!

Re: A couple of new Honda N700s
I dont think the engine is lumpy or vibey at all, well not for a 700 paralell twin, it has got lots of character in my opinion, a lot more than an inline four. When I had my 700x I swapped over with a mate so he could try the 700x, I was riding his cbf600, couldnt wait to get back on the 700x, the cbf 600 felt bland in comparison. A week later he bought a 700s.
Im not a gynecologist, but I dont mind taking a look.

Re: A couple of new Honda N700s
Rumour has it the 700 engine, which you most likely know is derived from the Jazz car, was so smooth initially that it was unbike like and very much like an electric motor with no character at all. It sounded equally electric motor like too. So the 270 degree crank was introduced to make it sound like a motorcycle and give it a small but significant meaty thump at tickover through the bars where the balancer shaft has no real effect. Upon revving the engine there is apparently no vibration at all and is typically Honda.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Re: A couple of new Honda N700s
Had a DCT NC700X to ride while my PCX was being serviced, I was very much looking forward to riding one at the time.
I came away from the experience bitterly disappointed because the noise, vibration and general feel of the thing was so unpleasant there is no way I could ever own one and I had been intending to buy a manual NC700S
Its very much a perception thing, to my ears the sound of a Honda VTR, Suzuki SV, TL, Guzzi or a Ducati is the sweetest music, but narrow the angle between the cylinders, Aprilia RSV, Harley etc and it just sounds uneven and abominable, as does the NC.

My memory is different, the thing vibrated and shook when in motion.
I would very much have preferred a vibration free silky smooth "characterless" version.

How come sales figures prove nothing about the N700, yet does prove that the PCX is great, BMW scoots are "shite" and that electric vehicles don't work?gn2 wrote:Sales figures are not a reliable guide to quality of engineering and design, only an indicator of popularity.

If you look more carefully you will see that I have made none of these claims, this is you twisting my words (again) to suit your own personal agenda.Bluebottle wrote:How come sales figures prove nothing about the N700, yet does prove that the PCX is great, BMW scoots are "shite" and that electric vehicles don't work?![]()
