The weather's a fickle thing down here. There can be sun in St. Ives and pouring rain in falmouth - just 20 miles away![/quote]
Yeah....but its not as bollock-freezingly cold down there as it is up here!!!!!

I'm always out from Mo-Fr.
Today (Shrovetide) we've got the afternoon free.
Webcam showed a lot of skier and overcrowded parking lots at the stations and indicated -11°C at 11 am and -10°C at noon.
Weather wasn't sunny as last weekend, but hazy fits better for winter times.
12:30 I packed my Kymco und went into the mountains, where winter retreats from global warming.
Ascent:

Parking:

Further walking ascent:

I enjoyed it!
But when I was young, the snow walls beneath the street where several meters high and you couldn't see any signpost. I went to school with cross country ski several times as there has been virtually no road at all. Big rivers were frozen and there was no big plague of insects the next summer.

In SW-Germany:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palatinate
Ancient town Trier (Augusta Treverorum, founded 18 b.C., residence of imperator Augustus), historic town Worms (residence of the Nibelungen dynasty), US air base Ramstein and US-only town "Patrick Henry Village" and much more belong there.
