Cat D is the least serious category. It usually means that the vehicle has suffered light damage but the insurance company's decision to repair it is dependent on the cost of the repairs and the value of the vehicle.

my nexus has done just over 40.000 miles so dont be put off... if its got history then great,, the listing hides nothing but need to have a good look to see... for cash i would say £800 first and see what happens.. work up... he had it on first for £1299 ish a week ago on ebay, but i would say look mate cad d and the mileage i have £800 cash what you say,,,, im here now with the money or i will have to walk away see what happens then meet him half way if you want it £875 good luck

Looks cosmetic to me. plenty of parts on ebay. It has the master key all docs and the seller seems to know his bike and describes the damage honestly.
Worth a go at the price as a project, after all the engine alone is worth £500.
I would just check the affect a cat D has on insurance first though.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'm off to see it in a minute. I'll let you know how I get on. I'm not expecting much, just want it fot a commuter hack. My Sport City jus feels a bit too small for me but its also really impressed me so I thought I'd try a Nexus again with my new found Piaggio admiration!

Well I bought it. There were a few issues that i've taken a chance on but I did chip him back on the price.
There is basically a little bearing type rattle thing which when you put your ear against the CVT cover sounds like its coming from (hopefully) the little roller in between the variator and clutch. If its not that it something on the variator. Its due a belt service soon anyway and i hope to strip it down before that to check things. I'll probably change the belt then and keep the old one as a spare.
Next up was he broke down with (surprise surprise) an electrical fault. I didnt really get what happened or his explanation but it was something to do wth the rear light and some loom issues. They repaired the loom but this has left the engine management light on?

The repairing garage arent Gilera people and didnt know how to reset the light? Hmmm.
Anyway, it does have quite a lot of induction noise and pop on the over run so I was wondering if it has a intake leak and that put the engine management light on?
All that aside it it rode straight and true and everything else seemed okay. It actually looked a lot cleaner than in the pictures. Wheels are typically corroded though. It spouring down now so I've juts put it in the back garden for now and will give ita going over during the week, although I'm tempted to just tax it and use it as it ride sokay. Patience is not a virtue I have.

Looks good on the surface. If your changing the belt then I would recommend the oem one from italy at 46 euros.
I checked my wiring loom which turned out to be corroded.

i just changed the DAMPING PULLEY GUIDE as the bearing in the middle was shot, rotated but grinding, sutton want £28 got one off ebay for £7 , was gonna look at mine to see if i could not press a new bearing into it to resell??????the belt will be slapping on it, just had a look and none on the bay at moment,,, also check when you take cover off the washers are in place,, one after clutch bell before cover,, check the bearing in the cover as that can cause the squeel if grinding
theres one on ebay from a guy whom seems to have stripped a nexus down as he has had loads of parts listed, could get him down on price with an email as he wants £16 for it, i would say £10 would be a good price, he might bite your hand off for a sale.

Take it into scootech and get laurence to plug it in to their navigator to find out about the management light. I think they charge about £15, might avoid a lot of hassle.... (Scootech Roman Rd E3)

I love the Mk1 Nexus and loved the way it rode but on mine a whole lot of trouble started after 4 years of ownership. Good luck with yours.
