Best Mpg ever?

I get around the 65-70 mpg mark with my 400 Majesty, but I am 20 stone so fair enough!!

Got 95mpg out of my last tank on the Satelis 250 but I usually average between 80 to 90 depending on the weather, traffic and how I feel like riding on any particular day. I do a commute of 27 miles each way from Essex into Westminster, so I cover a really wide range of roads, from country lanes and open motorway through to congested urban filtering and tourist dodging.

Like Wozza with his NC700 DCT, i can get 84 MPG if i ride like a grandad but normal MPG is 70-ish.
The CB500X does around 65 if i cain it or 76 if used in grandad mode

How do you do it????? I know I like to crack on, but I can never get anything like these figures! And a commute into London does not sound like an economy run, with endless starts & stops and traffic light grand prixs....OK thats probably I wouldn't get good mpg figs!

My commute is 7miles each way, 1mile residential/30mph and the remaining 6miles National limit A road.
In winter I average mid 80's - due to the engine taking longer to warm up and quieter roads so I can do 60mph.
Rises/drops to high 80's in spring/autumn - warmer and busier roads, usually stuck at about 50mph most times.
Summer I typically get low 90's - very busy roads and average speeds of 40-50mph.

Worst mileage I've ever got was during winter a few years ago was 82mpg.

Think the best I've had on the PCX was about 115 mpg but its been as low as 80 mpg when ridden flat out.

I still marvel at these bikes that break the 'ton' fuel wise. How good is that!

To be honest Data, It's not really that great for a small bike in these days when some small petrol cars can get 65mpg.
Also I wonder why bikes don't always seem to have improved that much. Back in 1980 I used to commute into Dagenham about 30 miles each way on a Honda CD185T. The roads were mostly congested single carriageway back then and I still got around 100mpg. That was a basic engine without fuel injection or electronic ignition.

That said the best I've had from my PCX is around 130mpg but normally it's about ten less than that.
The SilverWing won't go much above 67mpg though.

I'm not sure these high economy cars would get the same mpg for the same journeys we do though. And even if they did, they would be taking a lot longer to get where they are going!

But yes, we should be doing better. Honda's type of low end torque engines are what we need for all except the most sport-inclined scoots.

Well my journey profile is this:
- 10 miles on the A113, which is pretty open and smooth running at 50 ish, for the most part.
- 2 miles through low speed village and approach to M11. Often overtaking slow traffic.
- M11 for about 5 miles, but filtering at 20 to 30mph.
- A few miles on the A12 to Bow, on a 50mph dual carriageway, which usually runs freely.
The last section is all urban, but about half is in bus lanes so fairly easy and smooth progress. It gets a bit stop start after Tower Hill but then eases along the Embankment.

On the way home it's much the same, except that the M11 is at full throttle!

I think the distance helps too: my engine is fully warmed through on every journey.

But I don't ride slow. I mostly observe speed limits but I hit the rev limiter every journey and don't hang about leaving lights. The 27 miles usually takes just over an hour, although the school hols have brought this down to 50 minutes lately. Not a bad average speed, eh?
