You can get it in most bike shops and its also cheaper on Amazon. I have used it for years and have been rubbing it into to Max's silencer because the view is they are prone to rust. However there was an article in this months BMF magazine that warned about not putting it on surfaces that get very hot because it can increase heat and do damage. News to me, anybody got any thoughts?

Yes it does "Go Off" I think the shelf live is either 2 or 3 years but I would need to confirm this.
