Nope much more, my son has recently passed the theory test (£31) and just been quoted £750 for manual conversion (auto to manual) then Mod 1 & Mod 2 training, rental and test fees!
I agree, it is costing me about £600 so far to convert my auto to a manual licence. If I don't pass first time, it will cost much more. How much does it cost to learn to drive a car these days? I'm sure I had 8 or so one hour lessons...

Passing the car test is also pretty expensive these days for the majority of people. The days when you could just take 8-10 hours training and expect to pass the test are pretty much gone. Everything has changed, not just bike tests. Training is more expensive, as are the exams and the actual test itself. G'ment are not trying to put bikes off the road but are trying to address the rather disproportionate large number of injuries and deaths involved in bike riding compared to driving cars. Better training and testing is key to that but it all costs. ;)
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Been riding for 55 years & owned too many bikes to list here...

go to your bike training place and ask for advice perhaps you only need to tweak your riding skills to pass a test,

when i did mine I did a second half CBT free of charge on a geared bike as i had only ridden twist and go, two half days training later £500 DAS
passed that was two years ago training cost will vary

No doubt you'll have had people saying to you, you'll have no trouble getting a driving licence as your a biker, usually from non riders, and telling you they passed their car test after only half a dozen lessons, they probably didn't.
Probably, though riding a PTW should give you a decent understanding of how to handle roads and hazards, which a raw (eg 17 year old) learner won't have. So 'all' you have to do is master car controls and the required manouvers, rather than having to learn road skills as well

cant do it like that with the new rules

pass on a 125cc auto and you end up with a 125cc auto licence only

you need the a2 at least now but there is no training schools using scooters yet only motorcycles

so only way to upgrade to the 300 is full licence really
i was an atheist until i realised i am god
Remember its a speed limit not a target

Not so. DAS is now only available to people over 24 but it still exists. Here's the explanation from one company's website https://www.getbike.net/das-london" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The Direct Access Scheme (DAS) is designed for riders over 24 years old, (or aged 21-23 and have held an A2 medium bike licence for 2 years) who wish to ride bikes of unlimited size and power. Training maybe initially conducted on 125cc or Restricted 500cc bikes, and progresses to 600cc bikes that are used for the practical test. Course lengths are determined by the individual’s level of skill and competence – novice riders will naturally require more training than experienced riders! The number of days spent on training is advised by our instructors after a free assessment of your riding skill. They are also happy to discuss your needs as a rider and offer the best training package to meet those needs.

Turning this around, I think that anyone with a full car licence and a year's experience should be able to add a motorcycle entitlement to their licence by doing a CBT.

old scrote here in New Zealand they let learners ride Burgman 650 and below. Law only been in for a couple of years as i said to maxiscootnz imagine a learner 17yrs old and mum and dad buy him a Tmax which he is allowed to ride here on a learners licence. I personally think the law is stupid.

The other option is to take a car test and then buy the MP3 LT .... 400cc of machine that will do at least 80 mph ...
Drive it on a car licence with no further training or test .... and you don't have to wear a helmet. :?
Now that's a loophole in the law if ever there was one.
