No reason what so ever to keep a fully charged battery on constant trickle charge.
If I don't use my bike during the winter I just plug the optimate in for an hour every couple of weeks or so.

Im assuming we all know that you don't get a constant trickle charge from the Optimate or CTEK
They switch off once the battery is charged and don't start charging again unless the battery charge drops enough to need it.
A trickle charger is a different thing

A quick update...
I went to a local motor factor and took a look at their battery chargers (having noted comments about the size of the clips) and found a
Ring RSC 500. The clips are quite small so I purchased it.
I connected it to the battery (in the bike) and this morning the battery is all charged up and the bike started straightaway. I left it running for 10 minutes to circulate the oil.
I've re-connected the charger and I'll just leave it connected until I put the bike back on the road again (after the salt!).
Anyway, thanks for all your help and advice it is much appreciated.
