I was also interested in the maxsym 600, however a chap in Israel, where the 400 seem most common, has advised against Sym, saying they are not very reliable and prone to bad suspension and other faults. Kind of put me off them. :?

I wouldn't read too much into what one chap in Israel said. he's probably been riding it up the Golan Heights, over rocks and rubble.
Or he works for honda or yamaha.

A lot of reviews of the 400 seem favourable, although it's a bit heavy and not to my taste.
Have a look at the scootercommunity.com.au . The aussies seem to rate them

Israeli scooter market = mounting points for home-made anti-Palestinian projectiles.

I haven't cared what Israelis think since 1967. The Italians put bazookas on scooters long before the jews. Or the Arabs.

From my experience of my teenage sons abuse the sym scooters they had and the way those machines took it without complaint or failure I personally would have no quarms about reliability or the build quality . I honestly think they are good value for money .

Maxsym 400 biggest seller in Grease and have you seen the state of their roads. One of the biggest markets for SYM is Israel hence the launch of the Joymax there so they cant be that bad. I understand one large London Piaggio dealer as now switched to SYM, following the excellent response from SYM with my small warranty repair (arranging for it to be done by local Piaggio dealer to save me traveling), I am even more excited by the thought of the 600.

It being a nice sunny afternoon here I took the 400 out for a spin in the country. Called into Groombridge Motorcycles for a chat about the 600, they offered me an excellent trade in (I will have hardly lost anything on it) against a 600. So I have provisionally said yes and at their suggestion will wait for the new plate in March
