Excuse me, but please don't start bringing silly politics into the issue of scooters. It's poison, so lets stay away from left and wing politics thanks.
Woz I am not bringing silly politics into but if you look at the video of the debate in the Westminster Council chamber you will see that it was these same statistics they quoted. You must also be aware the the Daily telegraph is a huge supporter of the truly appalling Westminster Council rougime. I was a member of the" No to bike tax" group and this was a terrible attack on us two wheel users. If we don't watch it loads of Councils will want to charge us to park because its a cash cow. Already Brighton Council have put out feelers to the local MAG group asking if we would be prepared to pay for parking if they improved bike parking bays. Be on your guard or loose our rights to free parking nationally. Not being political (however my leaning are very left) but we do have to fight all the time for the use of bus lanes and free parking etc or loose it.

Why should you get free parking in reality what else do you get free as a 2 wheel user whats difference between a car and a 2 wheeler apart from taking up less space so it should be priced accordingly ? Last time I looked was about £3 a week if you buy annual parking ticket for Westminster.Fucking bike tax do us a favour

All I would say is if you start mentioning left/right wing politics it causes heated arguments even on the nicest forums.
The article is sensationalist in the extreme and written in a way to gain attention, but then all papers including the Guardian sensationalise issues from a left/right perspective. In reality the truth lies somewhere inbetween.

Look at the bigger picture it's the thin edge of the wedge. In Brighton now it's almost impossible to use a car because of restrictions and parking charges. All I am saying is we need to be on our guard.

There's lots of places you have to pay for bike parking its nice to get free parking .When we meet at Matlock have to put few scoots on a car space and buy a ticket I had to pay £1 at Perrenporth beach for scooter years ago Ive never seen a mass protest there .Dont get me wrong I dont like paying either for car or bike but its not a god given right.Westminster protests were just few out on a jolly trying to get every one else involved and basically just pissed everyone else off .Ive heard this thin edge of wedge for last few years still hasnt happened .

Protesting about road tax on bikes would be a better idea make it a flat rate instead of on cc's

I think you're probably right Jules.
I know in Lancaster and Morecambe one or two Council run car parks operate free parking for motorcycles, so we're quite lucky up here at the moment.

I do agree with you upto a point, but it matters not whether it's left or right wing councils, as free car parking is on the way out. Residents parking areas will increase as time goes by and more more restrictions on parking will be a sign of future things to come. That's the way it's going to be and I don't think anything's going to stop it.
