Dude, maxi scooters are not made for pottering about town doing the shopping. They are built to crunch miles. myself and Gerard C toured Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg in July and we are off to Venice on the 1st October. Ask Meldrew if scoots are capable of long distance riding

I see no reason why a 125 can't do it, but it will need planning and to do it without an overnight stay would be silly IMO.

My gp800 (when it works) is one of the fastest bikes on the forum but it is still outpaced at high motorway speeds over long distance by cars. Yes it will do them but not in the same comfort and safety as a car. My car is ticking over at 2k revs at 90 and a cross wind or a lorry will not deflect me. I rode for four hours last weekend on three trips and my ears hurt at the end even with plugs

I think we have to step away from the concept that all long distance travel is a race, and that being overtaken by cars is somehow 'bad' or to be 'avoided'. In any vehicle I have been in except a 737 I have been overtaken - and that includes a Porsche Turbo - we just need to get a little perspective here. Remember this is Britain, not the outside lane of a German Autobahn, you're only actually allowed to do 70mph - which must come as news to many of you

I rode my scooter at a maximum of 90kmh (56mph) through france for most of the day to get from below Bordeaux to Dieppe, and it was a safe, relaxing, easy trip. I took a 263cc machine but any machine that would sustain 56mph would do - i.e. even a Honda Vision 110cc. I was probably outpaced yes, I missed an episode of Coronation Street too I expect - these two items are both connected however in being _totally_ and _completely_ _irrelevant_.

What is actually important is NOT having a huge engine to massage your ego but simply:

1. Comfortable seat
2. Good sitting position
3. Not getting too tired or cold
4. Miles per tank
5. Miles per gallon

Have a read of Wander on a Honda, C90 US tour where two people ride a lot further on much smaller machines. I guess they'd find it faster by plane - I expect they'd be desolated to realise they would have taken a jet or at least a 4 litre saloon - so no one tell them - right?

I am with globs on this one, someone is on a different planet I think. 90mph at 2000rpm that means 225mph at 5000rpm, must be a diesel
