Thanks for that Gerard C - good plan and no, I don't wear summer gloves all year round, I'm no numpty - in fact, I probably go too far the other way and wear all the gear, I don't fancy gravel rash!! Thanks :-)

There is a disconcerting trend appearing on the Muppets where some are making contributions that make sense and are bordering on the mature. You know who you are! Please stop this at once. It is surely not in the spirit of the forum.

toriaoxford wrote:Stupid question I know as these things are 'personal choice' but, I've had one before (2 years ago!) and sold it because it was too heavy and cumbersome - this was the predecessor to the current model. I currently have a Honda Forza 300 which is a great little bike, fun to ride, flickable, economical etc... but I am so tempted to get another Burgervan but have a few questions:-

1. Fuel economy - What is this like now - for example, I get approx. 125 miles per tank on my Forza but seem to recall the Burgervan returned only about 100 miles per tank, dependent on riding style of course
Your Forza should do much more than that to a tank, mine easily does 180 miles.
toriaoxford wrote:2. Weight - is it that much lighter to wheel around than the previous version - yes, I have sat on one and wheeled it a couple of inches and it didn't feel too bad but that was in a showroom so I was nervous about dropping it!
There's no getting away from the fact that the new one is still an incredibly heavy barsteward of a lump.
toriaoxford wrote:3. Servicing costs for someone that knows nothing about bikes so could therefore NOT do even an oil change!
Going to be much more expensive than a Forza, shorter interval and more giznmos to fettle.
toriaoxford wrote:4. Depreciation - I know all vehicles depreciate in value but how quickly does this one depreciate - I hardly ever see second hand ones (at least, young second hand ones) for sale and of course it also will depend on how well the bike has been looked after
The more you pay the more you lose.
A Burgman 650 could easily lose the entire cost of a new Maxsym 400 in three years or less.
toriaoxford wrote:5. Handling at slow speeds, filtering etc..
Heavier bulkier means much less suited to low speed commutes.

toriaoxford wrote:My reasons for upgrading again are, obviously, more speed (not that I'd necessarily use it), presence on the road, winter protection (heated seat, grips etc...) and possibly a longer commute in the short-term.

I look forward to hearing your views - thanks guys!
A move to a 400 would bring improvements in the areas you seek, the 650 Burger would be overkill.
Maxsym 400 ABS can be had brand spanking new for £4100 delivered to your door which has to be the best vfm in maxi-scooters right now.

And if you want increased road presence, get a white one of whatever it is you choose.

I must admit to loving my 650 Burgman. I cannot comment on other maxis because I've only ever ridden Burgmans. I'm picking up another new one in September and passing my current model on to my niece. I never sell on or trade in my machines so depreciation isn't an issue.
As I am retired I only use my Burgman for pleasure.

Thanks gn2 but how do you get 180 miles? My needle is just on the red at 125! Thanks for your other responses about the Burgie. I've had the 650 in the past, 2 years ago and loved it but was a little too heavy hence considering the revised model. The 400Z may be the way to go in white! I do love my Forza but just want a bit more grunt.

The fuel gauge is utterly useless, use the tripmeter.
Usefully the tank capacity is 2.5 gallons.
Fill to brim, zero trip A run till trip A shows double the mpg indication.
At this point you will have half the mpg figure in miles remaining.
e.g. mpg shows 80, trip A shows 160, miles remaining 40
I've been using this method for 21,000 miles and it definitely works.
(so long as you don't get confuddled by trip B like I did once and ran out.... )
