My old Drag Star 650 had a massive 33 BHP but coped with the wife and I and enough stuff for a bike rally. On that it was the suspension that let us down.

I did note the Maxsym but not sure of how it would cope with living outdoors (oh the joys of on street parking) plus I know with the Burgman there's suspension upgrades available plus other accessories.

They are a nice piece of kit,i am on number 5 & 6,yes i have two of the beasts :D centre of gravity is low,so makes it easier to handle,i have Givi soft side panniers,a Givi dry bag and of course the under seat storage, plenty of room for them weekends away,i dont have a pillion though.I have the extended riders back rest, very comfortable and recently i invested in an air hawk seat.

Great turn of speed for them private country roads 8-) last year i was in Wales,my mate was on his 650 Burgman with his partner as pillion and i struggled to keep up him on our route, the engine braking is good, even moreso if you use the power button as well,i do sometimes play with the manual gear box option as well, loads of leg room to stretch them legs out, newer ones come with heated grips and seat as standard.

Well it looks more and more likely I will be getting a Burg. Just working out if I want to leave the £600 worth of Givi Trekker Outback panniers on the XT when I trade it in. Well the Givi's make a nice seat and table set (38L and a 48L) plus there is all the stickers I have collected!

On the other hand, does anyone take their Burg camping and where do you put the tent and sleeping bags?

I had a dragstar 650 then a V-max and now a Burg 400 and I have to say I`m loving the Burg ( when I actually get out on it ) As for the camping gear the Burg will swallow whatever you got on the Dragstar and dont dismiss the 400 over the 650 When I was considering swapping to scooters I thought I would need the 650 but after research i decided on the 400 ( cost, size and weight) and have no regrets
Whatever you choose ... enjoy

lol, my wife likes the hotels too. Currently the panniers (52 I think and 38 plus the 52l top box are handy when we go to Silverstone. She takes the car to the hotel and we day run in with the bike. 2 helmets, jackets etc can all go in the luggage and we can walk around in comfort while giggling at the sweating sports bike riders in their one piece leathers.
Once I have got the Burg I will have to see how the lids fit in - my top box is supposed to hold two but does not - weird shaped helmet.
I know Givi do some small panniers that fit but I am sure I have seen photos of Burgmans with the Givi 48L units on.
Still, I have to get it yet which means I have to continue to clean the XT :(

With a Givi top box that now go up to a 55 litre, two helmets will easily fit in,they do the hard panniers for the Burger,i have seen them on one, did'nt really appeal to me,much prefer my Givi throwovers,i almost forgot i have a large tunnel bag as well 25 litre's.

Very seldom use the panniers, makes re-fueling a bit of a pain, the soft panniers you can just lift up while still on the Burgman and re-fuel,the hard pannier needs to be taken off.If the misses is the type that insists on taking the kitchen away,i'll be surprised if you really need panniers, 55 litre top box,25 litre tunnel bag,50+ litre under seat storage, thats one hell of a lot of space, plus you could always get a luggage rack for the top box.

The second Burger i have came with the top box,i dont always take it if i am out with the other lads for a bimble.

Who's your local dealer, not many have the 650 Burgman as a demo,i guess you'll want to try one.

Got a choice of dealers. One in Chichester 12 miles away, Crescent Suzuki 15 miles the other way and Halselmere 20 miles to the north. Once I have the crash bars on the XT repainted (hopefully tomorrow) I will book a test ride. Current choice would be Crescent as I got a Vstrom from them once,

If you're heading to Crescent at Verwood, Conquest Motorcycles (opposite Three Cross MC) have a had a used Burgman 400 up for a couple of weeks now, You could always try it for size.

Aiming for the 650 and new thanks. There is a guy at work who has a 650 that feels just right. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will be ringing around the shops for a test ride

i have only managed to fit one helmet under my seat full faced, i suppose if you had open face small you might fit two, as for tent etc I fitted mine into a Lomo bag and secured it across my seat in front of top box ,
two man tent sleeping bag and sleeping mat there was still extra room for other stuff.
