If it's what I think above, there is a small holder that goes on the end of that clip to support the pipe or cable. Let us know if you don't find that to be the case.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'! :lol:

Been riding for 55 years & owned too many bikes to list here...
