Re: Electric 'Moped'
Their is a moped called the Onyx in the states that folk are lusting after, christ its fast upto 50 ish, i watch a load of vids on youtube of group rides with super 73rx, monday bikes, huck cycles and look cool as flying around L.A but those Onyx epeds are next level, even bloody scooters as in stand up and push off types that can do well over 70mph, hoping for something fun and electric myself if i have enough funds next spring.

Re: Electric 'Moped'
Gosh! That looks a bit special!
I wonder how well it will sell over here.
I have had good service so far from UrbaneBikes; we shall see.
Insurance has proved awkward although it's sorted now.
If you've looked at reviews of the NiU mopeds on You tube you may have noticed that Bennetts sponsor some of them. They have a written review, too.
However, the same Bennetts won't insure those electric mopeds.
Bike Sure do.

Mike found this Robot Vespa motorsport video, very useful info, great scoot IMHO. Runs on Dynamic mode on one Batt, so you have shopping storage.

Thanks, Dave.
That review was one of many that persuaded me to go ahead with buying one.
I ordered it last Saturday; it should be with me by the end of next week at the latest.

Re: Electric 'Moped'

Happy days for you, Andy, the Missenden Flyer (you tube) has had one on test, he was using the sport mode all the time, I assume no one has found any issues with hill climbing. I will try to get a test ride on one. Its the way forward, 2 batteries in parallel gives you good flexibility, take the one under the seat out and it goes a bit slower but storage restored. You can get a top box if necessary. Win Win.

Re: Electric 'Moped'
To be honest, Dave, I don't mind if it is a bit slow up hills as long as it gets me up from promenade to home.
I don't plan on going very far, either; I'll ride the seven miles, mostly on the level, to Sunderland Tesco where I do my shopping, just to see how it copes.
I've ordered the rack for a Shad box which will be fitted before delivery.
Nick Staib has been supportive, too, and I think has a fancy for one.
I'll report back as time goes by.

Re: Electric 'Moped'
The Nius are great fun, Mike.
They have been a staple range for Onthewheel a mile or so from my house.
e of the things I love about electric motorcycles is whe you are able to access maximum torque from standstill.
The Nius do that admirably. Not quite as impressively as a Zero SR/S but enough to propel them along better than a petrol engined scooter of the same power rating. ie they nip up to their top speed quite quickly.
For a purpose like yours where range isn't an issue, they are absolutely ideal.
I know that OTW have sold quite a few but I don't personaly know anyone that bought one. Therefore I wi be very intersted in how it fares long term.
As you say, the Kalkhoff you have is a great bike, and was exceptional in its day. They do have limitations, though, and "upgrading" to a larger motor is both illegal, and (as Muddyfox pointed out) also not guaranteed to do what you want.
The Niu should, though. Have fun and enjoy!
