Hi Pete What tyre is on the front of the 400.

A new city grip 2 on the front would make a difference I`m pretty sure.

When I had Conti Go`s on my T max the front went away much of the time, and swift braking, ouch !!!

Over to the old city grip and amazingly good by comparrison. ( in the dry ).

I think the SW sort of handles better than the 400, slightly !!!

But nothing touches a T max, even a 2001 one. You can dive in to corners much faster etc etc. And come out of them in one piece. Which is handy.

But if you have a short inside leg I`d give the 400 more of a go, ease on right back, really slow down, then build back up gradually.

In my experience the SW isn`t much off the pace of the T max round corners but feels slower.

IE there`s more buzz to be hand on a T max with less crash bang ouch issues.

i'm 6' 1" and my bum is sitting dead on the seat bump. there's a weird looking tyre on the front so might be worth changing as the back is quite worn. i'll persevere for a bit but it's difficult with the great bends we have down this way. i did notice that many bikers dont nod anymore!

the 400 is heavy like a 600cc superbike. the 650 is a gigantor bike. you will be shocked by the size. makes the 400 look like an anorexic. not easy to move around. the ecvt is something special. till it goes wrong and then repair will cost you the price you payed for it, unless you do it yourself (which many have) but youll have to take all plastics off and the engine out. basically, all the cvt maintenance youll ever do in the b400 over time, will cost the same as done once on the 650. I would have bought a 650 a long time ago if I had a garage. there are really spectacular fellas on the net who know how to wrench. salute to DATA and Maccecht who really know the burgs.

the scooters have small rims so handling/grip issue isnt optimal. and 1 piston, & you cant expect much. it does its job very well. and lets not mention the comfort and underseat storage which imo is the largest of any scooter on the road (I think) it has its limits. the SW is the same it runs smoother then the b400 as its a twin engine. but they are touring scooters.

if performance is your thing than an ak/tmax is the way. you get a bit of convenience with under seat storage. otherwise its back to motorcycles for performance. if youre tall you may want to sit on one first to check. arm position might be an issue if youre tall. good luck!

I had a 400 Majesty, my first scooter after years of motorcycling. I decided in my infinite wisdom that bigger was better (bikers head was on) and bought a Silverwing. I was better than the Majesty in most respects. Very swift, decent handling, within the restraints of a scooter, and Honda fit and finish. It proved to be be heavy around town, which is where it spent most of it's time. Eventually I swapped to for a Vespa GTS 300. That is so good I bought another last year. Horses for courses, as they say.

prices for the tmax are quite bonkers but i'll try to test ride one before anything else. i dont commute or ride around town. i like doing 100 mile trips on a dry day so it's just a toy, and i like to bomb along so maybe i need to check one out. thanks for all the advice so far

I ride a Silverwing 600 2014, and also a Cruisym300 2018. My Silverwing has covered 44,000mls i am the only owner. The Silverwing i find an excellent bike my first Silverwing ( this is my second) i also did 40,000mls on. I tried the Burgman 650 before buying my second Silverwing i found it not as "Agile" shall we say, it was okay but, the Silverwing i felt more in control. I have thought of selling my Silverwing as i no longer go long distances, and the Cruisym is perfect for me now. I also ,at one time, had a 400 Burgman that is what got me into Scooters in the first place

Hi Pete well if you try to buy a black one you will again gets nods from most bikers as they look like a bike from the front.

I just wish the SW had a proper swinging arm but wow the motor is like crack, I love the feel of the thing and not even put in the 26 Gram ( or less ) sliders yet.

If you do get one, put 15W oil in the front forks and get some YSS shocks at some point and you will be well away.

If Honda brought out a new SW like scooter tomorrow I would seriously consider trading mine in and going to loan central.

The engine is amazing, when riding out with a BMW1200 he could not believe how it accelerated away on standard rollers even.

BUT !!!! you do have to ease in to it handling wise or it will catch you a proper wrong un.

But a scootery scooter that feels like a bike too really.

Also though it might be an idea first to wang the New Michelin City Grip 2s on the front and rear of the B400 as they might surprise you, and it would be a good selling point if it does go.

PS just looked same tyres as a Silveriwng around 100 pounds or so for the two or just under Front tyre: 120/80-M14
Rear tyre: 150/70-M13
