Does the mk8 differ from my mk6 in this? This doesn't make sense on a mk6 as there is only one switch, where the starter button normally is. You press once to switch the scoot on, and press again to start the engine. Are there separate switches on the mk8?

Yes, the main ignition switch with the on/off symbol is on the centre keypad, with the seat release and the steering lock buttons.

SWMBO bought a pair of Faraday pouches for the "keyless" car keys to live in inside the house, they were only a couple of quid, and you can't start the car when the key is in there!

I’ve just had a loan car with keyless ignition. I don’t see the point of it unless the key system is a weak point for some reason. It’s not a great effort to insert the key and turn it or is that too much to ask of some folk ?

Actually, the keyless systems are often the weak point themselves! The Tmax system would be OK, except that its best to turn the key off & on to save the battery, which creates as much hassle as you save not having to put the key in the lock. My (Suzuki) Car system is better in that the key still works if its battery is flat...but the system design as a whole is a mess in many ways.newscooter wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:22 pm I’ve just had a loan car with keyless ignition. As a matter of interest as I've never owned a keyless vehicle, my wife had a company car. when I go out for the day I often take a bottle of water and a health bar which I sometimes consume sat on the scooter or if it's on the side stand leaning against it. Would the ignition be on while I'm doing this?

On the Tmax, if you put the side stand down whilst the scoot is switched on, it beeps at you, loudly.

I can only speak for the Forza 350 and X-Max 300, but -knight2 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 4:52 pm As a matter of interest as I've never owned a keyless vehicle, my wife had a company car. when I go out for the day I often take a bottle of water and a health bar which I sometimes consume sat on the scooter or if it's on the side stand leaning against it. The bike ignition would be off if you turn it off; but the key itself would be live unless you actively turn it (the key) off.
If the key is live and within around 4-6 feet of the bike, the bike ignition can be switched on and the bike ridden away. Once the bike is switched off, it couldn't be started again without the key being nearby.
Hope that's clear!
No, I don't know what was wrong with proper metal keys, either.

Keyless ingnition means there's no convenient slot for the insertion of the casual thief's screw-driver.
It means, also, that the 'key' can remain in the pocket, taking away the pocket-search for the metal key.
I'm not suggesting either is better than the other, though.
