And all of which is why I invested in a Techalogic helmet camera, reflective waistcoats and white helmets :-)
Wouldn't have helped as this accident was pretty well my own fault! I was going to overtake the tractor after the junction, but got too close. Whether he did indicate is a moot point - I certainly didn't see any indicator, or maybe it was rather late. I was still behind him when he turned right, but was too close and closing too rapidly.

I guess there's no rush to decide what is next....I won't be riding anything for a few weeks. I am tempted by the ADV350 as something smaller lighter cheaper than the Tmax, that maybe doesn't rust so much! I have so much fabulous scenery within 30 miles of my new home, I don't see myself doing many long trips across the country!

One or two of you may have noticed that I haven't posted anything in the last couple of weeks - this is due to me having a close encounter of the unpleasant kind with a tractor and trailer, whilst riding my Tmax mk6!
Quite a serious accident - broken ribs and other bones, and they kept me in intensive care for a week! I'm now OK, but still have aches and am very week, so its going to take weeks to get back to full fitness, or to ride a scoot
Sorry to here you’ve binned the Max,but glad you’re still around to tell the tale…..

Two of the muppets who i see have the ADV 350 and haven’t any complaints,i have the Forza version and it does me proud,it carried my bulk & luggage from Northampton up to the top of the Lakes, all non motorway didn’t miss a beat,Dave who lives up there put a route together and despite the awful weather thrown at us the 350 took all the hills, lanes ect in its stride ,obviously the Adv 350 is a bit more adventurous styling but the Forza version gives a bit more weather protection, the 350 would easily suffice for any trip you may wish to make to Scotland, every now and then(although i should know better😁) i do have hooligan tendencies and the 350 engine does allow to get them tendencies out of my system,
Hope you’re back in the saddle soon👍

Regards

Steve

Hi Grumpy,

Wow, just caught this bad news, glad you are on the road to recovery and not stuck under a tractors wheels.

As a Mk3 Tmax owner (2011) I think they are all you ever really need in a scooter, especially with a set of Dr Pulleys in it.

If it owes you nothing, just ride and enjoy the damn thing.

Mine is coming up for 54,000 miles and still runs great, though I've felt a bit of higher-rpm clutch slip on the motorway that needs investigating (recent belt change and new Malossi clutch pack fitted by me ??) and I really do need to check the valve clearances once the weather warms up a bit and recheck my earlier work, plus clean or replace the heavily fouled radiator. Its on its second set of replacement front disks under my ownership, I seem to get through front tyres and brakes on this bike unlike anything else I ride.

As you know, its easy to DIY once you get all the tupperware panels removed and well documented maintenance tutorials by "50cc Scoot" on YouTube, not much special tooling needed other than the variator sheave holding tool which can be modified to hold the clutch basket too.

Have you considered buying back your Mk6 from the insurers and getting a body shop to fix the scratched and damaged plastics ?

Get well soon mate.

No - I suspect there is a lot of damage apart from the panels. It was quite a hefty impact - the entire exhaust is apparently bent, and that wasn't even on the prime impact side! I think it would be a lot of work.

If this is a possibility for you make the enquiry.

The Sewer-ants are a cartel of the worst order. They effectively quote themselves to do the work, then accept the highest bid from themselves. It's in their own interests to pick up on a dulled screw on the heat shield and decide to replace the whole exhaust, earning margin on every part of the process. They'll never choose scotchbrite as a normal person would.

The downside is they hate any competition. What's a write-off and only worth the price of a bus ticket home when they are buying suddenly becomes an irreplaceable rarity with a bit of light wear when they are selling.

If your time is free and your patience elastic consider going to take a look.

Sorry Grumpy just seen your post and hope your not in too much discomfort,
as for what now i doubt i'd buy another Tmax unless a decent non rusty 2020 560 came up for sale.

A non rusty Tmax? I think that's what putting me off buying another - everything metallic goes rusty in months, especially if you are mad enough to ride in winter! If you are an obsessive cleaner and scoot maintainer then its OK, but I'm a 'ride 'em and pay someone else to fix them' person!

Yes the center stand and the electric screen brackets are showing signs of rust, i ride all year so everything metalic is covered in chain lube which has done a pretty good job.
Seeing she's just had a new clutch fitted I've given her a wash 😊

Well....6 weeks since the big accident and rode the scoot for the 1st time! Very strange experience....didn't feel too bad, but I've clearly lost a lot of confidence, didn't go above 40 the whole way! Bit wary of the tractors I came across.... Still got quite a few aches and pains so I'm certainly not ready to rush down to a bike showroom and buy something else yet.

Glad to hear things are moving in the right direction 👍

Confidence will rebuild. It's a good thing, a sensible amount of caution is better than over confidence.
