Somehow, it doesn't look like it was designed to be outdoors.....let alone ridden!

Anyone know if the DCT in the NC is based on those in the cars?
Curiously, Honda use a CVT type auto transmission on the Jazz! - though I don't know any more than that about it. DCT technology is known in the car world, though VW are the best known for it.
I'm not sure, but quite possibly. Although Honda haven't introduced it into their cars yet, I'm sure the experience they've learned from their DCT in motorcycless will eventually be transferred across into their car division.
Honda long-since rolled out DCT in the cars. While still keeping CVT's in others.
Acura RLX Hybrid, Honda Fit Hybrid and Acura TLX all offered with dual clutch transmissions. And a recall or two... http://world.honda.com/news/2014/c14021 ... index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Accord, CR-V and Odyssey are also offered, or about to be, with an 8-speed DCT
If it's `strikingly similar`, why bother bloody changing at all? Far cheaper to train the rider/driver than equip the machine...
Give it to me when it's strikingly better...
But the automation of the transmission is another step toward the autonomous vehicle, and another nail in the `confidence through competence` training methodology, presumably so that blind alzheimer sufferers in the nineties can continue to drive to the shops after death.

Ah that's interesting Irev. I must admit I don't think I've ever even heard of those Honda car models.

The american Honda Fit is a Honda Jazz in the UK
Acura is a North American brand name (grown out of Honda's luxury division)

I just read that the next generation Smart will have DCT (I imagine they will be Getrag units but it didn't say)

When I did my initial design degree we had to study a DAF Variomatic unit, I can't remember what car model it was from but it looked like 2 scooter CVTs side by side. I was very impressed with it.
After looking at various transmissions options we had to come up with our own. I tried to do a PID controller but it was rubbish , I kept thinking how clever that DAF unit was and how pathetic it made my attempts look
Until then I'd written them off as "those weird little cars", it taught me never to underestimate a design before looking at it properly.

Well here's the next best thing at the moment Mr Hororbags - an actually machine in the flesh.
