Spent a jolly afternoon removing all the rear plastics from the PCX in order to check the valve clearances as it's been 7,500 miles since I last checked them.
Eventually got to the relevant oily bits only to find they didn't need adjusting.
I should be pleased I suppose.

They didn't need adjusting last time either so that's 15,000 miles without going out of adjustment which is pretty good.

Got it all back together and had two shouldered bolts left over!!
Luckily they were only for fixing the bucket to the battery box so didn't involve any dismantling of anything else to put them in.

I think I'll remove the rear suspension next and give it and the back wheel a good clean up.
Also the exhaust needs rubbing down and painting.

Oh, and the air filter needs replacing...
... And the oil is due to be changed...

And...

Ho hum

Got the C90 mot test next week so...
Removed plastics and checked valve clearances (15 minutes)
Removed front wheel and checked bearings, spokes, tyre, front suspension and steering head bearings (20 minutes)
Removed back wheel and checked bearings, spokes, tyre, shocks, swing arm, sprocket carrier bearings, chain and sprockets (30 minutes).
Checked over the rest of the bike (20 minutes).

Working on these little bikes is like a breath of fresh air as everything is so easy to get to!

I took advantage of the Spring like weather and treated my 18 month old (11,000 miles) Forza 300 to having its silencer repainted using screwfix Plasti Kote hot paint (thanks to Symcity for the tip). All the bolts came undone nice and easy (replaced them with a little copper-slip grease) and I rubbed the silencer down with wire-wool & a little 600 grade wet & dry on the few rusty bits.
2 coats of paint (this stuff goes on nice and covers very well) and then refitted and ran the scooter fro 5 minutes to 'cure' the paint as per instructions.

Looks very smart once more - wonder how long it will last.

I got three small tins of high heat paint from Amazon for nine quid. I can't remember the brand but, if it's any good I'll post it up on here.
It only takes a few minutes to whip the exhaust off so I can always do it again with something else if it's not up to the job.

Last couple of weeks have been really cold in the morning and with age I am beginning to finally feel it in my fingers so bought some R&G heated grips from twowheeljunkie for £30 shipped which arrived on Thursday.

Low and behold on the day I am fitting them it was bloody 14°C, sunny and all I can hear are bikes in the distance riding off, people out enjoying the fantastic weather... I began to wonder what the hell I was doing.

Any way it was real easy to get the old ones off and the new ones on although the throttle grip needed a layer of insulation tape to make it completely secure.

As the grips wiring had a circle connector for the neutral on the battery but the live was bare I'll need to source the right connector to go into the Grip Warmer connector. I was also on limited time so couldn't be bothered to go out and buy the connector instead opting to plug in to the battery... so I MUST remember to switch them off.

The R&G Grips themselves are nicely made for the £30 shipped that I paid for them, the controller is a basic one button does all with 5 levels of heat from 35°C to a very cosy 60°C. The TMax is full of curves on the handle bar covers so the controller is stuck very solidly to the top of the left brake reservoir with 3M double sided.

much longer if you give it a further coat of acf-50.

I think that's the secret when using heat proof paint - ensuring it is really dry / cured before refitting the exhaust

Probably a bit childish, but I have MOMO'd up the XMAX!

Took Mr T out for a quick ride (and to deliver some Easter eggs), came back and got the Waxoyl out to go over a few patches on the mainstand which I'd noticed needed it. I can't believe how much corrosion has started, especially on the underside of the engine. When I bought it it was like new. I went all over the underside, swingarm, brake pipes, main and sidestand etc. with Waxoyl and ACF50. Somehow the Waxoyl has washed off the underside of the crankcase and allowed the salt to start corrosion, and on the brackets which hold the mainstand and the mainstand itself. The bike lives outside under a cover but is washed down most times I've come back from a "salty" ride. I thought I'd been thorough enough, but obviously I need to be a bit more attentive to "Mr T"'s needs... I'll need to get some of that heat resistant paint for the exhaust pipes as well.
