Had magnets fall of a starter motor as well. Managed to source a second hand on from another scooter but had trouble mounting it to scooter as cable was rubbing on rear wheel. Being clever I parted the starter motor and spun the bottom section 180 degrees . Cable cleared wheel but motor ran in reverse so would not spin engine into life. Closer inspection of the starter motor revealed a small lug and slot to prevent this . Had to get another starter motor. Worth remembering if you take one apart.

Bovine gynaecology operation on a Maxsym !!! icon_spin-on-head.gif
Took most of 2 hours to remove and refit a headlight bulb. Needed a mirror on a stick, mini LED torch, heater to keep my fingers warm (so that I could feel as I couldn't see) .
Was going to do both as it has two headlights but after all that pratting about to do one i have lost the will !!
Had to do it all from below the fairing so the front wheel was in the way, had to put weight on the back of the bike to keep the front wheel in the air. Then at least it was easy to swing the wheel from side to side rock-on.gif
Next time I need to find bulbs that won't blow. Long life bulbs ?? Seen them advertised but are they as bright ?

Spent most of the day working on the Elyseo.
Took ALL of the panels off, Went through almost every electrical connection and cleaned them up. Removed the starter motor and cleaned a bit of gunk out, refitted it. Removed the carb and cleaned that up. Cleaned the airbox out. Wired a switch up to the radiator fan so I can turn that on and off as I wish. Fitted a 12v socket for my sat nav. put it all back together, Turned it over just to see if the clicking had stopped, yup. The starter motor now works as it should and it tried to come to life with what little petrol was left in the tank. Im just waiting on a fuel tap to arrive, Ill fit that, Fill her up and see what happens.

Hi Steve, re the bulbs-I did mine on the SH300 at 50K and it was a PITA as well, so I decided to fit longlife/heavy duty headlight/indicators and position lights as I did not want to go in there again soon.
The long life are not as bright as normal bulbs. Check out Halfords as they also do heavy duty bulbs-it may be vibration that caused failure not bulblife.

Went on a local Xmas toy run to a special needs school. Normally I marshal the run but as I am still getting used to the Burg I took photos instead - hate being 'in' the run as it is so ruddy dangerous with the weekend warriors

SH clocked 9000 miles on the way home today... And rewarded me with another blown headlight bulb... 4 months since the last... And the 2nd replacement in 13 months, A right faf and fiddly job with bannana fingers in the cold, try to hold an inspection lamp and still use both hands, yep more of those little plastic tabs broken...
Wanted a std phillips or osram but none hanging up...
Halfords ultra brilliance @£14 hope it last a while

Roll on Thursday - finish work for Xmas so get to ride the Burg in daylight for a change! And as an added bonus it will probably be raining so hopefully all the mud it acquired on Sunday will get washed off (It did 1/4 of a mile of 'green lane' to get to where I was going that day)

Ah, cleaning after a ride. Never bother doing that as I ride the bike 5 days a week as a commuter and at the weekend I would rather ride than clean. Not into shiny bikes or resale value, more of a preferred means of transport for me. Heck, I think my custom bike got washed 3 times in 4 &1/2 years !
Did wander out to the bike at lunch to see how much mud got washed off in the rain. Not much but its heavier rain tomorrow so thats that sorted!

Here is the last Suzuki I owned 8 days after picking it up new

Well I've got shares in Johnsons so the problem I have to look for is polishing through the paintwork. :D
I enjoy cleaning and fettling almost as much as riding (but only my own bikes!)
Part of the problem is the inadequate mudguards, exposed springs etc. on bikes these days, but the only one which seems immune is the Indian Chief. :D
I've just seen a Pacific coast parked outside one of my local shops earlier when I was cycling. Now there's a bike with weather protection. :)
