Thanks guys, She sat on the Aprilia 300 at the NEC and didnt like it, she turned her nose up at the Bev 300 also at the NEC, she passed her L2 test in September so is limited to 33bhp, so the 400/500 are just about out, there is the added weight of those to and she is only a girlie

After the NEC show we phoned out local dealer and he said the one at the show was prob the only 300 GTS in the country as they were in demand, we asked if he got one in to let us know, 4 days later he phoned us excited saying the crate had just arrived, we went down the next night and she had a good look around it, but to my suprise said she would wait ( she didnt have a job at the time, she does now ) .
The last 3 bikes she has had have all been new and kept them for 3 years or more, so resale value wont worry her to much.
The main Sym dealer is 20 miles away, but our Yamaha dealer is only about 3 miles away so he could service what ever we get, and the Yam dealer said he could do the xmax 250 at same price as the Sym, so knocking £500 of the price. but thats a bit smaller and she likes the maxi scoot size and weather protection.

Fairing side extensions and larger screens are available for the Yamaha.
If you can get one for the same price as a Sym, I think it's a no-brainer.

Whatever you do, do not go against what she'd already said she likes & certainly not because of anything we may say on here - that way lies disaster & "short rations".
Best stick with original Sym idea.

I briefly toyed with that one, but more money for less horses was a bit of a no brainer...

Id go for the Yamaha, for the same price as a SYM youre getting a lovely made scooter which looks the nuts too. Or... tell the SYM dealer what Yamaha offered, he might knock some of the SYM then

Well, women being what they are, she finaly made up her mind today !! We went to Raceways to look at an SH300 that she looked at a few months ago, didnt like it, but they had a tatty old Xmax 250 outside, she sat on it, said it felt good, and promptly ordered an NEW one, so hopefully in about 10 days time, she will get a new Xmax 250 in Black

Phew.
She didnt know any history of Sym and was worried about getting hold of parts and TBH we havnt seen any on the road, so gn2 looks like you were right.

She's made a good choice.
Keep us updated about living with the Xmax 250, I for one will be very interested to hear how it shapes up.
