Not always, but it gives an indication of relative worth an individual is willing to pay, dependant on their tastes.
eg: £1 for Coke or £1 for Pepsi (same ml bottle) - purely down to personal taste.
If Coke was £2, then more people may swap to Pepsi, because its "close enough", and the extra cost isnt justified.
It gets trickier if something is similar but quality is more varied: say a Big Mac for £3 vs a pub burger for £6 vs a restaurant Kobi-beef massaged by naked virgins etc for £20.
They're all burgers, but some want sustenance, so buy the cheapest possible, while others might want the best experience and taste so cough up for the £20 Kobi-beef burger. Others of course might think burgers are awful and want something else entirely... but it indicates the range of costs and features most important to an individual.
So back to bikes; if a BMW is £3000 more than a similar maxi scooter or auto-motorcycle, then it's going to seem overpriced if build-quality isnt much more. I'm not sure if £700 just to upgrade from a manual to an auto is worth it either, but if comparing auto-motorcycles vs scooters, it can still give an indication of worth.
