Nooooooooooo
It's too much like a motorbike.
Regarding the whole idea of "bang for yer Buck" I don't think things can always be valued against each other.
I've got a £31 ticket to see Forest play at Derby, date to be rearranged.
But next Sunday, I can buy a ticket to see Man City play at Aston Villa and the cheapest ticket is £25.
Bang for your buck would say I should get a refund and go to Villa instead, just another 40mins down the A38.....
But I won't!
(Despite your derision!)

I used to do the weekly shop on my CBX 750F using a 45 litre top box, one of my favourite bikes.

Not always, but it gives an indication of relative worth an individual is willing to pay, dependant on their tastes.
eg: £1 for Coke or £1 for Pepsi (same ml bottle) - purely down to personal taste.
If Coke was £2, then more people may swap to Pepsi, because its "close enough", and the extra cost isnt justified.
It gets trickier if something is similar but quality is more varied: say a Big Mac for £3 vs a pub burger for £6 vs a restaurant Kobi-beef massaged by naked virgins etc for £20.
They're all burgers, but some want sustenance, so buy the cheapest possible, while others might want the best experience and taste so cough up for the £20 Kobi-beef burger. Others of course might think burgers are awful and want something else entirely... but it indicates the range of costs and features most important to an individual.
So back to bikes; if a BMW is £3000 more than a similar maxi scooter or auto-motorcycle, then it's going to seem overpriced if build-quality isnt much more. I'm not sure if £700 just to upgrade from a manual to an auto is worth it either, but if comparing auto-motorcycles vs scooters, it can still give an indication of worth.

your all spot on - its a joke - according to a large motorcycle training school the reason why the large Auto Maxi scoots are over priced in the uk is due to the lack of demand - but surely over pricing them isnt going to help!!! I would love a BMW new scooter or yamaha t max 530 and could pay the price but i wont out of principle!!! Someone please get the manufacturers to get a grip!!!! grrrrrrrr, considering re-taking my test on manual bike now!!!!! Kawasaki er-6n £5799!!!

Maxi scooters are cheaper here than in France, Germany etc etc so the training school saying they are pricey here due to lack of demand is rubbish. Its all relative, bikes and scooters are stupid money because they get away with it. Why on earth a TMax is over 8k when you can buy a very good car for that is beyond me. Likewise, why are big bikes so expensive? They basically arent worth the money, hence the huge depreciation but we buy them because we cant get cheaper.

talking about depreciation, a friend of mine was mentioning today on facebook that he wanted an mv agusta f4 but it was sooo expensive, starting from 45,000 SGD (he lives in singapore) which corresponds to £22,000ish.
I had a look at autotrader and saw they go for £45,000 brand new

and said it's more expensive here, but he said he was quoting the used prices there... So i looked at the used ones, and saw they can be had about £8,000 for a 2008 model... So two points here:
1- Yes, it's cheaper to buy them than in singapore
2- depreciation of 82% within 4 years is madness! But good for 2nd hand buyers like me

Hmmm now BMW's are, or at least used to be, famous for their very low depreciation ie people were still prepared to pay silly money for old ones. Now will the BMW Maxi scoots follow that trend? Or will they depreciate like most maxis do ie drop like a stone.....
