So would anyone recommend the Y5R1-RT - Racing from Akrapovic?

5kg lighter and claims to give 2hp.

It costs quite a bit but with a variator combination it could be a noticeable improvement.

I'm sure its good, but its a helluva lot of money.....is it worth it???? If you really want to go for it, Malossi do a 560cc kit at around £700, plus the cost of rebuilding the engine, but if you are that keen on performance, you might as well buy something faster......

think if its performance ya after, dont waste ya money on a akra pipe, sc project one is fine and half the price, trust me i spent a shedload on min,e power commanders n dyno tuning the lot, best thing that made the total difference for me was the j costa race variator, its all ya need but a pipe is ok too but dont waste ya money on an akra coz you wont notice a whole lotta difference tbh.

I'm not after ultimate performance to be honest. I'd be happy with faster acceleration up to 70 miles and losing top speed.

I'll have a look at the sc project pipes though.

If you want faster take off speed at the sacrifice to top end just put lighter rollers in it. And as for pipes a mate of mine who knows a thing or 2 told me on 4T's the pipe makes no difference apart from the sound an looks.

Yes...I put the Malossi variator on (£300 fitted), and it feels like a different bike round town. Makes no odds at open road speeds, but it is brilliant at overtaking speeds.

Get one makes the engine rev more freely and lighter than the standard you want performance not noise ! I have a gpr fitted to my baby the tmax carries a lot of junk in its trunk .....i say get one its better to have a nice rumble sound than the silent ride.No ecsuse from drivers saying the didnt hear or see you.

The variator is a waiste of time unless you get the other parts to go with it ie engine tuning it just gives it the punch at low speeds ! if you have a injection engine you need to get the chipped box ! as for the carb model you need the the gear up kit from malossi ...and then if you have the bucks the head,barrel kit ,lighter flywheel.....but then you should have bought a gxxxer

No, I think the variator on its own is worthwhile - yes, thats it exactly, it gives you more punch at low speeds, or more precisely from around 20-30mph where the standard variator made it very sluggish. And it possibly does put an extra 1bhp to the wheel. For £300 its makes a distinct difference for little money.

As you say, you could go for the big bore kit, the chipped electronics etc etc, but its £000s and it will still be slower than a 600 sportsbike or a big trailie...
