I got confused by that one too. I checked with Kymco and it was a sensor ring. Not that the bike was sold as including ABS.

It may be that the latest models into the country are fitted with ABS. All bikes over 125cc have got to have it soon. I think in the next 12 months or so. New EU rules...but cannot remember exactly when the rule comes in, but it's soon.

Looked at the Maxsym 400 myself last February just before ordering the B400z abs. Liked it a lot, but it didn't have abs at that time. I read a test recently in T&G which rated it highly. My only concern was dealer support. My nearest one is 35 miles away and next nearest is in the other direction 40 miles away. Suzy dealers are much closer to me and the Burgman was more a known quantity. No doubt Sym will become much more popular now they have bikes like that so more dealers too. Good luck with the Maxsym and have you done a review of her yet? Please, if you can, do one if you haven't as I'd like to read up on it more.

Good point Data. When looking at Sym I was very concerned by dealer support. I have a first class Suzuki dealer near me who gives me superb service and I would much rather put my custom his way where as the Piaggio dealer is 30 miles away and an unknown quantity but the fact remains that on initial information the Burgman now looks to be an inferior, overpriced product compared to the X10. The solution lies with Suzuki.

Yes, I agree Mac about the Suzi dealers and of course the b400 being a known quantity. I'm not so sure I would say the Burgman 400z is the inferior product, I think it compares very well indeed with the Maxsym 400, especially with it's ABS and some other extras not available on the Maxsym. But it is a premium product at a premium price now that Suzi put the price up to £6400. It is however proven to be bullet proof, it lasts a very very long time without spending too much money on it. I like that! It will be interesting to see what the new 400 Burgman is going to be like, and indeed the Six Fiddy. Don't think I'll be changing mine though for some years. Oh...and don't forget Sym will be introducing the new Maxsym 600 later this year. Can't wait to see that too! It will probably only cost the same as a 400 Burgman with a 3 year warranty to boot.

So in a nutshell this is how it is for me, Sym drops straight out due to dealer network. If Suzuki introduce something similar to the X10, 15" Front, ABS, Longer service intervals and updated transmittion then I will happily pay a premium, say maybe £500 but not £1,500. What is certain is that the change I was planning in a couple of months time will now be deferred to 2013 to see how all this shakes out. Yamaha is in a similar position with the 400 Majesty but even worse I would suggest.

Oh the Majesty 400, totally irrelevant scooter at the money they want. Even at a discount the Burger is better overall.

And why does the Yamaha Majesty use so much fuel? It hogs it compared to my Burgman. You could actually get better from a Tmax.

Did a bit more research on the Maxsym600. Boy does it look good. For those that don't know, it's a single cylinder engine with the engine unit forming part of the rear suspension as on the 400 Maxsym. It has loads of power but don't know exactly how much yet. It promises to be very economical. It's Burgman 400 size but slightly heavier by a few pounds. That's going to be a bonus I suspect as many would like a 600/650 but find the Burger Six Fiddy and the Silverwing too heavy and intimidating. The Tmax, a bit too costly to buy and run and too high in the seat maybe. The Maxsym will have a 3 year warranty and is certainly a quality product. With bikes like these I think the dealer situation should improve over time much more quickly now as these bikes will have a very wide appeal in a growing market. Sym certainly has a good pedigree. I'll attempt to follow Ginger Phils picture posting instruction later today so you can all take a gander.

But is the market for 400-600cc maxi-scooters actually growing in the UK?
I would venture to suggest that it's actually in decline.
