FYI My negativity is totally unjustified. I just don't like Germans. :p

I doubt whether motorcycles will ever have mechanical self-cancelling indicators as the mechanism would have to be connected to the steering 'column' and it's a long way from the switch.
A timed switch would be possible but having had one on my first car I can say they are a pain.
Glad you like the bike. I was struck by how easy it must be to remove the rear wheel to change a tyre - that should reduce costs if only by a little.

My Suzuki GS850 had a timed indicator switch, flashed several times then self cancelled. It was a 1979 bike

As recently as that?
My first car was built in 1959 and it was one of the last of a long line.

Aprilia Manas have self-cancelling indicators. They are purely electronic and cancel when they have flashed a certain number of times, provided that the brake has not been operated. Clever.

One learns something new every day - thanks for that.

The X9 also had self cancelling indicators, IIRC.

Harley's have self cancelling indicators and they work a treat. Virtually all early 80's Yamahas had self cancelling indicators. I have no idea why they can't be the norm in biking today, rather than the exception as I think they work really well.

Last year when I test rode the new BMW R1200SE and F800ST they both had self cancelling indicators after 30 seconds, unusual for BMW not to continue the trend?

My 1986 1100 Virago has self-cancelling indicators after 30 seconds if riding, but stay on when not moving, eg at lights and junctions, then the count continues again when moving on.
It would have been nice to have on my Mk1 T-Max
