I know your right, but I just miss the power of a 500.mottza wrote:Which to me is a sensible decision.

Re: Cheap Nexus
What problems have you had with yours then. What problems should I expect from a 500 nexus?BenR wrote:Steve unless you have deep pockets I really would stick with what you've got for the time being. Mine has gone wrong again today & I'm really starting to hate it. I recently added up what I've spent on it in my ownership (since Nov 2011) & in all honesty I could've run 2 cars for what I've spent. If you really must have a 500 the X9 is a far superior bike in every way apart from the handling & the SL model the most reliable of the lot, you just need to keep on top of the maintenance, on my old one the rear lamp connectors needed cleaning every once in a while but that was it. Seriously mate they look good & handle superbly but I wouldn't bother.

But didn't John's Nexus start playing up big time after he stopped going to Thompsons or did I dream that?

I had to rebuild the engine after 3000miles, strip/clean/rebuild the cooling system 4 times, I've had to rebuild the transmission 3 times in the last 9 weeks because it keeps eating belts & variators. To be honest I can no longer be bothered with it the next time it goes wrong it'll be getting thrown in a field & set alight. Admittedly I have been doing lots of mileage (840miles a week) but come on a 500 is supposed to be built for it. I knew I should've got a low mileage X9 SL.

Re: Cheap Nexus
my belt lasted on average 6-7k miles and OEM rollers the same, even going at everyone else's idea of national speed limit most of the time and ragging it. Seems strange you would have so much trouble.

Are you running all standard parts?

I do about 150 miles a week. So I wouldnt be using as much as you. I'm not that keen on the looks of the x9.BenR wrote:Admittedly I have been doing lots of mileage (840miles a week) but come on a 500 is supposed to be built for it. I knew I should've got a low mileage X9 SL.
