ive seen a few of these fella's wearing these..and like meldrew say's usually on ex police bmw or white pan euro etc..... and they do make you kinda go oooh errrrr is that a bike copper.... :D ... then you laugh saying what a knob they look.... BUT.... you certainly do notice them.... and thats what 2wheeled vehicles need.... the car driver to take more flippin notice of bikes...... even tho they are too busy texting or looking at sat nav...

i put my worksite high viz on over me jacket on way to work now evenings are drawing in.... i dont care how i look.. as long as fuckwit car commuters see me

Even with a bog standard yellow vest and a silver flip front up, you'd be amazed how many drivers pootle down the road at 30 mph in front of me.
I don't do it intentionally, it just happens.

It would all depend on how you answered their questions if you got pulled, if you admitted that you bought it to look like a police officer you'll be in a world of sh*t. If you state that you bought if so that you were more visible to drivers, can't see any problem tbh....

You look like a Police officer wearing that gear whether you want to or not and the only reason people would buy a 'Polite' gilet and other gear with the blue and white checked bands is to give that impression to other road users. What other reason is there for choosing that design of hi-viz over the usual stuff that's available everywhere. If it looked like all the other hi-viz clothing you can buy I doubt if Solo would have even started the topic.

Just look at the other items they sell, that cyclist is kitted out almost exactly like the Police cyclists you seen patrolling round York, and the horse rider looks remarkably like a mounted rider doing crowd control duty.
Isn't it a good job that your personal opinion can't convict someone.... In order to be convicted for impersonating a police officer the court would have to be convinced beyond all reasonable doubt that you had intended to pass yourself off as one, so unless you admitted that you were trying to look like an officer there is very little chance of you being convicted. Whoever heard of a Polite officer anyway and the blue checkered colour so what? s.90 of the Police Act 1996 requires that you 1 intend to deceive or 2 are wearing police uniform, whilst they are admittedly similar so are any number of hi viz jackets. In this case it appears that this is a strict liability offence and therefore also worth remembering is if you WERE aware that you may be mistaken for a police officer it would only be for a period while the other road user paid more attention and therefore improving your safety. It is quite clear that the word is POLITE. The only benefits being drawn are to road safety. I'm sure there are some over zealous police out there who may take offence, but I can't see the CPS being willing to waste time and money on it.
