I checked my wiring loom which turned out to be corroded.
Sounds good. Got a link please?
michaelphillips wrote: ]i just changed the DAMPING PULLEY GUIDE as the bearing in the middle was shot, rotated but grinding, sutton want £28 got one off ebay for £7 , was gonna look at mine to see if i could not press a new bearing into it to resell??????the belt will be slapping on it, just had a look and none on the bay at moment,,, also check when you take cover off the washers are in place,, one after clutch bell before cover,, check the bearing in the cover as that can cause the squeel if grinding
theres one on ebay from a guy whom seems to have stripped a nexus down as he has had loads of parts listed, could get him down on price with an email as he wants £16 for it, i would say £10 would be a good price, he might bite your hand off for a sale.

good hunting for other issues
The noise goes as soon as you raise the revs slightly. I think i will try a bid on that one, thanks for the link. If not I'll just buy a new one.

Worth knowing about, thanks.

Yes their reputation certainly does proceed them! I've had a MK2 before and the one thing I didn't get on with was the shuddering at pull away/slow speeds. I'll see how long I can live with this one. Started to pull it apart this morning but now someone wants to buy my 250 which is good news but it was handy having that to use whilst I stripped this down and gave it a service etc. The Nexus seems to have a lot of intake noise? Are they all like that Sir? I'll try and work out how to get the seat bucket out tonight and have a look at the inlet side of things to make sure there are no split hoses or suchlike. Apart from that it seemed to ride okay and the steering seems in alignment and the guy following me home from when I bought it said it looked okay and there was no smoke etc. Biggest pain is the rear tyre is really squared off from its motorway riding and I hate the way flattened of rears make a bike feel. So I may have to treat it to a new tyre before its actually worn out?

Thnaks. Just going through the service history and see its had a belt and rollers etc at the end of last year and approx 3000 miles ago. Dunno why he thought it needs re-doing at 48k unless he was going to blindly stick to the service schedule?

Wow. Just been reading the service history. This bike has wanted for nothing! It has one of the most comprehensive service histories I've ever seen with any vehicle. There is a whole stack of invoices stretching back to when it was bought. Been serviced properly at the correct interval. :) Its had a new fuel pump £186 :o Its been in 3 or 4 times for rear light trouble, so clearly the rear part of the loom needs repairing. But on paper it looks like a much better bike than I thought it was. 8-)

Quote#:The noise goes as soon as you raise the revs slightly. the belt is in use and not relaxed and hitting the pulley quide so it could be that.

well done. if you take the side casing off, you can spin the centre pulley to see if any noise from the bearing, check the air filter is in place, also if you remove the central side cover (say if you were doing a plug change) check the spark plug is not loose, then you can also see the bottom hose from the air filter just behind the thermostat and throttle cables where it joins the intake, to see if jubilee clip is loose, there is a nodule it fits to the intake to see if come undone.. the top is bottom of air filter housing and should not come loose. you dont need to take out the seat bucket as fiddly doing it this way good luck and ps the rollers and pulley might need a clean out if juddery they may have flat spotted, dr pulleys would be the way to go.
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

Cool. Thanks for the tip. I'll do that when I get home.

Quick question for you, the variator/trans filter; Is the cover just a push fit?

you lost me on this question, if you mean the plastic cover that is on the front on the transmission silver casing cover (the first cover you get off with four philips screws - two at front before the plastic cover and two at rear) that is held on to the silver casing, by 3 or 4 small screws, they are mounted behind it when you take the silver cover off, yet there is no need to ever take this part off the silver outer casing, if you want a workshop manual then post your email address and i will send you one, the manual goes into technical detail engine wise etc, but is good for step guide into removing such as the tranny case etc when you get used to using it and has pictures along the steps its in pdf format, have you had apart a nexus 500 transmission case before??????? cheers

Bearings for the idler wheel are £2.80 each so not worth ever replacing the wheel as an assembly and they last about 50,000 miles. Only takes 10 minutes to swap.
