Under a grand? Would seem optimistic. One of those would be great for my commute, but the 1st cost always puts me off. Having one for under £1000 would make much more sense!

I've bought 125 and 50cc equivalents for a grand brand new.
They have been chinese cheapo scoots (not Elecscoot) so you get the same corroson and weaknesses as the petrol equivalents but the electric side of things weren't too bad - better than the mechanics and frame anyway.
The function was fine but I have had one dodgy charger socket (charger and socket replaced by dealer) and I changed a couple of connectors and once a side stand interlock - they didn't let me down but I didn't like the feeble look of them.

Ive talked to Elecscoot in the past when I was messing with putting oversize/extra motors in stuff and converting ICE frames to leccy. They were very knowledgable and I think they have a decent reputation.

Elecscoot have been going some years, i has surprised me that they are weathering the storm , so to speak and still trading, there models seem to be the chinese ones though i think, i even thought of importing a 5000w version, but all the hassle etc best to let someone else do it, there was an Elecscoot 4000w on ebay in red 3 months ago, under 400 miles and went for around a grand 2012 year, so you can find them but rare.

To be honest, no... i have been a keen supporter of the electric scooter and generally watch the development, and to see how its progressing. I guess you could call me a tinkerer as i get something and try to develop whats there, like my Nexus 500 which is almost where i want it to be, performance wise, and 3 years ago i changed the fuel mapping for our common rail 2.2dci mk4 Espace, it now develops 175bhp instead of 150 and my mpg has increased, they are generally poor round town book average is 24 mpg urban and 38 mpg motorway, i now get 28 urban and 47 motorway, which is better, still cant afford to drive it for school rubs etc mainly holiday use , and if topbox is on, i still get 42 motorway..i think tinkering comes with age

I tinker less now, maybe because I can afford to buy stuff that is in working order these days instead of cobbling junk together being my only option.

My fave was building a 600 cc car, very low and light. Wish I hadn't sold it because it would be an excellent base for an electric.

Plus I get to play with a lot of toys in my day job, prototypes, stuff that flies and occasionally stuff that goes bang and a racer or two. That satisfies the urge and more importantly, somebody else is paying

According to Scoot Infos the production version will be shown tomorrow, 10 September.

They've done a review of one of the prototypes and came away impressed. I'm not sure I like that it has a continuous rating of 15hp, so that it can be ridden on L-plates. Why? Because peak power is 47.5hp, which is a lot of GO for a learner. Apparently it does 0-60mph in under 7 seconds.

Yup
You're right though, the authorities haven't caught up with getting there heads around electrics. Another one of those historic anomalies.
