I agree SYM that the uk is a minority ,but it is growing a lot more than many believe and a lot of the dealers i know have been selling and promoting more scooters to the point that you would be lucky to see a new large capacity bike in there show rooms . They all also agree that maxi pricing is way too high and this is also there reason for pushing 400 cc or less .So what happened with the MV imports setup ,did they blow you out or was it the other way around , bad news either way really as i know a few people who want mv`s but cant get them atm . Yes it would be nice for mph/kmh switchable displays but even piaggio dont do it and trust me the mph on there speedo`s is unreadable .IMHO sym is a great brand and product and promoted correctly in the uk could go far .

An analogue speedometer with kilometres per hour isn't fit for purpose in the UK, but a lot of riders have put up with them since dealers started importing 'grey import' bikes from Japan over 20 years ago. Or even now they're willing to be fobbed off with a a Piaggio or similar scooter fitted with one. Japanese manufacturers have always put mph speedos on official imports bikes and scooters bound for the UK. Yet SYM which isn't a major player in the UK won't do it because we're a 'minority'.

Not quiet true,a few years ago i bought a new Yamaha TRX850 not an import) these had kmh speedo,s but yamaha would change speedo to mph for on request
free of charge, bike came with docs to say that, and i swopped my speedo over

I spoke to Masco about getting hold of a MPH speedo for my Downtown and they told me that there was significant enough differences in the electronics between the UK and the US versions for the speedo not to be suitable for the UK model. Even at a price they were not prepared to sell me one becasue they knew it wouldn't work.
No idea whether this is true or not, but if they're not even prepared to take my money, it seems reasonable.

Rubbish. My Satelis has the speedo with both km and mph but the mph is very visible. The LCD display with odo, trip and external temperature is switchable by the user whenever you feel the urge.

If they can do it, why not everyone else?

In this day and age you would think they would all have miles/kms on a switchable digital read out Honda helix had it in 1988

After 5 minutes of riding with a km speedo it makes no difference, I'm surprised you're all getting your panties in a twist over such a minor thing. Is it really that hard to equate 50 to 30 100 to 60 etc?
