Re: KMH and MPH speedos
Would be easier if we were a fully metric country! Instead of buying fuel in liters then working out how many miles to the gallon were doing! We buy everything in metric quantities, except for beer! Why not our speed and distances!!

Would be much simpler and better to go back to selling fuel in proper British measures.mac65 wrote:Would be easier if we were a fully metric country! I'm with Melrdew. I cannot see how it would cost any more to simply put MPH as the dominant figures. It's just disrespectful to ask us to put up with KPH. And the Americans are on MPH too.

Yes it is irritating but i think I am right in thinking apart from us these days the US is the only other big market to use MPH, so if a model is not sold in the US then its not cost effective to produce a bike for the UK market especially as the market is so small. My SYM is not he first bike I have owned with a smaller mph speedo and I do have to say you soon get used to it very quickly. Lets just join the majority of the world and go metric.

Our system of measurement has been built up over a period of a thousand years. It's not difficult for a manufacturer to comply with our system of measuring speed - they just can't be bothered that's all. Piaggio sell quite enough scoots to justify a small cost of having mph speedo. Infact they use to as a matter of course, but choose not to now. I know it sounds a bit silly, but having a quirky system of measurement is part of who we are.
Royal Enfield seem to manage it on their machines coming to the Uk.

Re: KMH and MPH speedos
Motrax sell a mechanical kph to mph converter. There are 2 types the gold one screws into the speedo drive on the front wheel, and the blue one screws onto the actual speedo. I bought a used gold one off Ebay and it worked perfectly, infact it was more acrurate than the original.Once fitted, the kph numbers on the speedo will now read as mph.I fitted mine to a Sym 125 and it was perfect. As a bonus the odometer will read in miles so that when the converter is removed,it will show less distance covered.

If Piaggio group can do mph speedos on their UK market Moto Guzzis there is simply no excuse for having a kph speedo on the X10

The X9 has a Km/h speedometer, but with a odometer in miles. I can read the Mph easily enough. The Leonardo was probably the worst.
