Hi Tony,

I've been reading about your problem and just wondered where you are located? After years of company car ownership I no longer have the tools or the inclination to do this sort of work. If you are in any position to get the bike to Wakefield my local mechanic is amazing and incredibly cheap. Let me know if that's anything like a possibility. Several local Muppets use him.

I've also got the use of a large van if you are in the North of England.

iv sent tony a PM an hour ago, as it seems logical im near, even just to get the tranny cases off and see where the noise is coming from, i seem to be feeling the cold more lately i just hope he got a garage :lol:

I am in Medway and have a shed with a workbench. More than happy to assist with repairs.

the final gear oil according to the manual needs changing
Replace every 12 000 km (7 500 miles, 12 months) thereafter its not gear oil either its SAE 10 W-40 with SF or SG NECESSARY AMOUNT OF FINAL GEAR OIL
Oil change: Approx.190 ml (6.42/6.69 US/lmp oz)
Overhaul: Approx.200 ml (6.76/7.04 US/lmp oz)
so i always use a syringe its easier :D

Yes it's the same noise as that YouTube clip.thanks also for your offer of help.If anyone is available next Saturday or Sunday I can come to you or I have a garage to work in.thanks again guys I really appreciate your help.

a lot of owners are saying the needle bearing at the rear of the clutch assembly gets noisy, suzuki needle bearing 21214-15F00... a lot of owners state they recoat the needles with bearing grease which quietens then down, so could be a simple fix and 1 hour or so to strip down the housing and take the clutch off, bearing grease the needle bearing and torque back together :D

Hi Tony, yes if the noise is the same as in the various online vids with a knocking noise clicking noise as the rear wheel slows it'll be the inner clutch bearing doing that. Needle rollers do tend to go that way. That bearing is not highly stressed and it only really starts working at idling speeds and slightly above. However, there are two of the inner gearbox bearings that are needle rollers that hold the idler reduction gear and if those are worn they will need to be replaced, but actually I never heard of anyone having to replace them. They normally last for ever so I thought it a bit strange we were talking about inner gearbox bearings as they mostly do last and last for a very high mileage. The inner clutch bearing is available from any Suzuki dealer but will need to be ordered in advance of doing any job of course. It takes just a couple of days normally depending what day of the week you want it. Next day delivery is extra. It costs around £15 from memory, but that was two years ago. I'd be glad to help if I could but still recovering from hospital visit.

do you know the part number or best place to order from. Also shall i wait until taking off side panel and running it?. will it be obvious which one needs doing or is it a case or without the engine running and manually examining the state of each bearing and seeing what state they are in then ordering the part?. Im sorry im not at all mechanically minded i can do computers and technical all day long. i apologize for the amount of questions but i don't want to order both the wrong parts or parts that are already ok. I had a look on Fowlers but couldn't see much for an4001 K1 2001 model?

not jumping on data`s request, but i know from previous posts he not been well lately.. so you might not get a quick reply,
tony i cant see it being any of the gearbox bearings, with any luck :D Best doing a gearbox oil change as well while the covers are off
if its the needle bearing in the clutch, like data says , you might get away with it not need replacing, just some bearing grease in it, as its running dry..but if it does need replacing its no 11 on this suzuki microfiche http://www.bike-parts-suz.com/suzuki-re ... not sure if aye gee in welling can still get suzuki parts , but should do, they open tues to sat 211-219 Bellegrove Rd, Welling, Kent DA16 3RQ 020 8856 4273 as they are the closest to you and you could ask them the price.

also if like i mentioned in PM i can have it all off for you in an hr or so ... if the needle bearing needs changing then you order one, i dont know what size the clutch nut is on the burg, :?: :?: i have a 55mm nut i used on the nexus, but if its different size :!: but stripping clutch down will make the job cheaper, anyways spoken to paul at R & P Motorcycles Mottingham and its a case of popping down the clutch unit with the new needle bearing and leave it with him, he charges £50 per hr so will probably cost that max to fit the new bearing... i have not got a bearing puller so using paul is the best way i could do... i have used him for 4 years for odd jobs where i cant do thru not having correct tools, he`s a good old codger and does the scoots as well as the bikes, not many folk know he`s there as his workshop at the back of the mottingham shops beginning of court rd
