So per machine, a tenner more for shipping and some import duty, hardly adds up to the price difference between an S3 and a Joymax does it?
Ah, the old three year warranty chestnut, do you honour them if people do home servicing?
If not given the short intervals the three year warranty is all but worthless.
Finance deals, have you never heard of low rate credit cards?
Potentially much cheaper than your 11.9% APR (significantly higher than what Honda offer on the Forza) ;)
Peugeot? Who are they, have they actually sold anything here, I think its just a rumour
At least Kawasaki's Kymco stands a very good chance of being more reliable than BMW's Kymco...
I have no doubt of Sym's reliability or quality, but when I was surveying the current market looking for a new 300 maxi I very quickly wrote the Joymax off simply because of the service interval.
The only thing which would have got me to put up with the inconvenient service schedule and kph speedo would have been if it was much cheaper overall than a Forza.
Maybe as Data observes I don't fully understand how bikes and scooters are marketed, but I have a very good grip on the other end of the process, selecting and purchasing.
And it seems I'm not alone.

Poor old SYMUK he cant win with some people but its great his here and I hope he stays and at 22 pages for this posting at least he cant say SYM is not being talked about. :P Whatever the rights and wrongs of pricing you cant get away from the fact that here in the dear old UK there seems to be an allergy to Maxi scooters, so SYM being one of the smaller guys is always going to have a small share of a small market. Its interesting that Piaggio do not bring their 500 X10 here, and Kymco its big engine flagship. So well done SYM for bringing a 300 and 400 to the market and now going ahead with the 600 with I am sure many of us thought we would never see here. We all have our favorites and all I can say is I am very pleased I went for my 400 max. It as made the move from bikes easy and fun without a day going past when I don't have a smile on my face. In fact my poor old Audi now spends much of its time sitting mournfully on the drive, even on a windy wet day like today (my SYM and I are happy to face whatever the weather throws at us :D ). Sadly there is one fly in the ointment to this happy tale and that is all this temptation SYMUK throws our way. That matt black 600 with red go faster stripes is calling to me grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 8-)

For jesus sake , what do you want SYM uk to do, they are offering much more incentives than others , you want to do your own servicing, get it wrong, and expect SYM to fix it. ,
You just cant please some people....

Sorry I wasn't clear enough, the tenner is for the shipping.
What I really meant: (tenner for shipping) + (some import duty)

Incentives?
Insurance that's more expensive than the meerkats can find you and finance at more than double what Honda charge?
horobags wrote:you want to do your own servicing
I don't, but others may.

In reply to the fact it's from Taiwan it should be cheaper. Years ago when video recorders were all the rage I remember getting cheap tapes by a company called lucky gold star. Cheap rubbish, never catch on. Now as LG and the other Korean company Samsung they are selling more televisions and electronics than Sony. And costing the same if not more. So as companies quality and products improve so do there prices.

This is an indisputable fact, not my opinion.

Time will tell if Sym have the pricing of the Maxsym 600 set correctly for the real world or not.
No one would disagree with you on that gn. We all know how may maxi's are sold across the board. But Sym in the UK is actually still quite a young brand over here when compared to the major players. Remember how long it took Honda to get where they are now. They started off in the 60's in just the same way. It took them decades to build the brand though to anything like what it is now. They made few sales in the first years of being here due to much prejudice against "Jap crap". No insult to any of our Japanese friends...thankfully, that sort of prejudice went out the window long ago after seeing how good the bikes were etc. Pricing is important, but it has to be realistic. Symuk does not have a huge amount of meat in his 600i (for example) to give away, given it's already very inexpensive by some way compared to the competition. That's inspite of what many may think. I've spent years in the trade in an earlier life and still have my contacts now so I do still have a good handle on what is happening in the trade. I don't know it all but little has changed I'm lead to believe, except for it getting harder to make a profit and stay in business. So it's imperative Sym get it right.

Now, lowering the price further would almost certainly result in the exact opposite happening to what we all/most of us, really want. More Sym dealers, more sales, better service. It just wouldn't happen. Why not? Because SYMUK and it's dealers would struggle to survive on less profit (and some probably wouldn't) and prospective dealers would have no incentive to actually take the brand on board due to making little profit. You just cannot run a business on thin air, goodwill and good intentions. History, marketing knowledge and common sense tells us that this is what happens in the long term and sometimes shorter term when companies sell too cheap, out of phase with the rest of the market place. So cannot agree with you gn on any of the points you make (which doesn't matter of course), except the number of maxi's sold. But as I said earlier, that's your opinion and of course you are perfectly entitled to it.

Also, thanks again to SYMUK for his explanations on pricing and all the other stuff. It helps enormously when someone with real time knowledge comes on to speak with us. Well done.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

In 1969 how much was a Trident?
Was it more expensive or cheaper than a CB750?

I don't doubt you are correct Data, but it means Sym UK are stuck in a catch 22.
