Depends on your scooter, I found even going to Portugal and back that fuel wasn't really a big cost at all, perhaps because I avoided the motorways and therefore got good economy...

Economy isn't the problem.
With experience of previous trips, we've found that on Sundays,, some pumps aren't always manned and therefore you can't always pay cash. Sunday is day 1 of the trip for most.

Oh yes, I found this! Especially really late at night, which is great for traffic but sucks for finding hotels ;)
I just used my regular credit card - what's the benefit of the Sainsbury card over them then?

BTW I'm trying a new method of packing for my trip, as for the last one everything was spread around between the top-box, seat and a bag on the pillion seat. So this time tents are out, hotels only - so no extra bag needed.

So I got a cheap Nike sports bag that fits my top-box exactly, it has two side pockets - one of which expands inside the main bag so that's the laundry section. Anyway - the clothes go in the sports bag in the topbox - and that's the luggage. All of it. In the lid of the topbox (I have straps there!) goes a fleece so if it gets chilly I can easily get to that.

Then the under seat (slightly more accessible as I have a button for that rather than a separate key), just has space for my lid, knee pads, casual shoes - so for ferries and shops I just need to use the seat, and for hotels I just whip out the bag, or for a longer stay I can unclip the topbox as a secure case in the room.

I'll let you know if this new scheme works out in practice... ;)
