As has been said soooooooo many bloody times by sooooo many people, the auto refers to auto clutch, not gears.
If the bike has an auto clutch you can ride on an auto only licence.
If the bike has a manual clutch (even if it has an auto mode as well) you'll need a full licence.
The gears (or lack of) are completely irrelevent.

Its not the end though is it! Would you spend 7500 quid and take it on someones word! Why so many different answers. Knowing my luck i would buy it then insurance would say its not covered. Spoke to dvla waste of time! I just want a definitive answer!

I've just noticed that Motorcycle Sport & Leisure tested the TMax in the current issue (doesn't say on the front cover).
They are the most switched on mag maxi-wise, but even their article has a string of mistakes....they show a picture of the variator (with cover off) and proudly proclaim 'New Tmax has belt drive'! They show a selection of rival scoots - including the Honda SW600T which doesn't seem to be available over here!
btw they did quite like it, but didn't sound enthused somehow.
