Personally I think that BMW are able to sell their machines at over the top prices due to the ancestry of their marque , as most people who buy BMW's think they are still buying quality and exclusivity, but who are actually only paying for the name.
I have had two brand new BM's in the past and the quality was no better, and in some areas worse than the average Japanese manufacturer.
Perhaps our own Triumph should look at building a scoot, as their build quality is (or was 10 years ago when I purchased my fourth Triumph) far better than BMW.

In fairness the Triumph of today is a completely different proposition to the Triumph of yesteryear.
But a Triumph scooter?
I don't think so.
If anything Triumph should produce a 350-500cc economic middleweight bike.

Still a few of them around and cherished.
Triumph of today is quite innovative, the only thing shared by the original Triumph and the Triumph of today is the name.
Looking at the present company, I don't really think they would come out with a bag of shite, do you?

There's been suggestions of a single ylinder 225cc (1/3 of the current 675 triple) to be produced in Indian joint-venture for massive Indian market. But some little way off and no expectation of it coming to the UK.

A Honda CN250 Helix cost around £3200 - £3500 new way back in 1989-92 when it was the only maxi scooter available, so even 20 years ago that would have been over your 3k limit.

That's why i'm never going to buy a brand new vehicle... I loved every minute on it, until one night some low life cnts nicked all fairings and its seat from outside my ground floor flat while i was sleeping. It was only then i realised the excess was around £900 on my insurance which meant i wasn't going to be able to afford either the insurance route or buying new parts myself...

I went and bought non-matching bits and pieces from breakers and assembled them the best way i could. Then sold it off for less than £1000... It's such a sad story that still makes me sorry for having seen it that way riding off to the distance...

Obviously the monetary loss was not the depreciation alone, as it was mostly due to the fact that it looked like a chav's dream bike although it had so little miles under it's belt...

This was my pride and joy as i'd like to remember it...

46mpg, 5.1 litres per 100km?!
The NC700x is claiming 78.8mpg (UK), 65.6mpg (US), 3.58l/100km, so i guess the BMW's "sporty" nature is effecting this, while a similar sized engine.

But anything ridden at Top Speed guzzles fuel; as I said, it's all down to the way the rider rides.
