The battery is in the same place as the mk3 I think, but its easier to get to. The front panel only has one fastener and a couple of clips, then there is a cover underneath that appears to have dozens of screws, but after that it should be OK. Screen and mirrors don't need to come off. Oddly, the handbook says you have to dismantle the left hand storage tray though. I can't imagine why, but I'll see next week when I'm having a power socket and Optimiser cable fitted.

You can easily get at it through the left hand storage tray, pull the tray out then 5 screws I think it was, I got at it when I wired in my heated grips - which incidentally have been bloody marvelous during this somewhat inclement weather.

But why do you need to take the tray out, if you get to the battery by taking the front main panel off??

Changing the subject....the screen. It is easy to move the screen to its higher position?? Even for someone who can barely tell one end of a screwdriver from another?? The book says take out the fasteners on the screw cover, but I have what looks like a slot for an Allen key, but seems to be a bit of soft plastic that doesn't do up very tight.
Of course, I assume the screen is on its lower position.....

You don't need to take take the front panel off to get to the battery, tray just pulls out 4 or 5 screws to remove the compartment cover and there it is, dead easy. The screen is on it's lowest position and to be honest I've not adjusted it yet, but I'll have a go tomorrow and we'll compare notes.

Curious....on page 6-28 of the handbook, it says to access battery, first remove front panel ('panel B'). Obviously its not a thing I'm going to tangle with, but since I'm taking it to some mechanics to have some leads installed, it'd be useful to guide them in what needs removing and what doesn't. I guess to run a power lead some where, it would probably help to have the panel off.

Actually got to ride it again today, despite the weather being appalling. The set of Bridgestones on it seem to have even better grip in the wet than the previous ones I've bought!

It actually felt a bit more TMax like today. I already moved the backrest to the middle position where I had it on the mk3, but I think I'll move it forward again. I seem to recall reading the bars are slightly more forward than on the mk3.

You can actually feel the effect of the engine and transmission mods when you go for overtakes! A lot more purposeful in mid range. I know Yamaha reworked the Variator, and I expected it to be a bit like a Malossi (or the other aftermarket ones) that allow the engine to rev a lot more - but it isn't like that at all. When you twist the throttle, it surges forward propelled by the extra torque in a most un-CVT like fashion.

The bad news is that all the dealer polishing has left the footboards slippery! There again, there is so much polish, the rain just runs off the bodywork!

Grrrr..! I've only ridden the thing for 50miles and I've discovered some sort of metallic foreign body embedded in the back tyre! Of course, it could have been there before I bought it. The good news is that so far it doesn't appear to be leaking air.
The issue now is whether to remove it - it may not be all the way through, but the snag is its quite a big bit of metal and maybe on the limits of being repairable if it punctures.

On the other hand, I managed to raise the screen to its higher position all by myself. On the one hand its definitely more protective, but slightly noisier. OK not too bad noise-wise, but definitely noisier than my mk3+laminar lip.

cock some soapy water on the object in tyre to check if its leaking ,before you pull it out,
its got to come out either way otherwise riding bike will just embed till it does leak

I would remove it, but first ring around tyre shops to see who has the correct tyre in stock then go and park outside to remove said lump of metal.
If the tyre says up be on your way if not push bike into shop...

I'm off to a workshop tomorrow anyway to have some accessories fitted. If it isn't likely to be fixable in case of disaster, I may leave it until I get a new tyre.
