you lost me on this question, if you mean the plastic cover that is on the front on the transmission silver casing cover (the first cover you get off with four philips screws - two at front before the plastic cover and two at rear) that is held on to the silver casing, by 3 or 4 small screws, they are mounted behind it when you take the silver cover off, yet there is no need to ever take this part off the silver outer casing, if you want a workshop manual then post your email address and i will send you one, the manual goes into technical detail engine wise etc, but is good for step guide into removing such as the tranny case etc when you get used to using it and has pictures along the steps its in pdf format, have you had apart a nexus 500 transmission case before??????? cheers
Hi.
I was putting the side covers (after looking for intake leak) back on last night and thought I'd clean the filter. The light had pretty much gone by this time and I couldn't see any screws for the cover that sits in front of variator, which is where I assumed the filter would be? I was just going to blow the filter out as a matter of course as I like to keep them clean. So the whole silver (facia) case comes off and reveals the proper side casing behind it? That makes sense.
No, i've never taken one of these apart before. I will at the weekend as i want to check that damper bearing though.
I've just been sent a link to the workshop manual and will download it at lunchtime but thanks anyway.
I couldn't see any thing amiss on the intake side and will have a better listen when I ride it tomorrow to make sure that is what it sounds like. I had a quick look round the bike and apart from the front brake pads being near replacement it all seems okay. Oh the seat doesn't unlock by remote, you can hear the solenoid working but nothing unlocks, which is annoying. Hopefully its just a connecting arm fallen off. I was looking forward to riding it to work today but had to come in on my 250 as I have someone looking at it at lunchtime. Fingers crossed it sells.

Thats very handy to know, thanks. I assume they press in and out easily enough then? Dont know the bearing number offhand do you?

Don't know if this might be useful, or you perhaps know of them already, but I've often seen this place recommended.

Thanks for that. Sadly my local bearing suppliers closed down a couple of years back. They were a lovely old fashioned place who never looked at a catalogue or book. They just got teh verniers out and measured up what you had then went out back and got what you needed and cheap too.

Re: The engine management light being on. The previous owner said that came on when he had problems with the rear light but even though its fixed the non Gilera garage couldn't reset the EMS light. Reading the manual it seems that could be true! Is there no way I can reset the EMS light? Does it have to be plugged into Piaggio software to do this?

No it resets itself once the fault is cleared. Fault codes are stored in the ECU but the light only remailn lit while a fault is active.
One thing that can cause it to stay lit is a duff regulator if the battery is being over charged.
Bearing size is 12x37x12 rubber sealed ball roller from Simply Bearings. Pressed out once a circlip is removed.

i can remember the only time my yellow engine bulb was lit for 30 seconds then went out was when i was riding the nexus then happened 3 more times that day, volts showed from 0 to 15.5 v flashing, then when light warning went out the volts on display went to 14,1,was just before i had trouble with the brand new battery which i just bought and was DUFF so i thought it was the battery!!!.... i put another new battery on and hey presto the scoot was fine... but i did also have to fit a new voltage regulator a few weeks later, the first the scoots had in 40,000 miles. maybe the yellow bulb was a warning of the voltage regulator packing in but at the time i thought it was the battery
