The other way is to go to the Scoot Infos site and use their comparison feature to find the top speed and acceleration figures that they have recorded during road testing. BTW, they do not do 0-60mph but rather the time a scooter takes to go from a standing start to 100metres down the road.
I have listed a few scooters below. I make no comment on the results - I have the feeling that a lot of bruised egos will wish to explain the numbers away...
J300
Vitesse maxi : 145 km/h
Accélération 0-100 m : 6,8 sec
Tmax 530
Vitesse maxi : + 170 km/h
Accélération 0-100 m : 6,8 sec
Burger650 2013
Vitesse maxi : 170 km/h
Accélération 0-100 m : 6,6 sec (sport mode)
Silverwing 600
Vitesse maxi : 166 km/h
Accélération 0-100 m : 6,7 sec
Sym Maxsym 600
Vitesse maxi : 155 km/h
Accélération 0-100 m : 7,1 sec
Kymco Downtown 300
Vitesse maxi : 135 km/h
Accélération 0-100 m : 7,6 sec
Piaggio X10-350
Vitesse maxi : 142 km/h
Accélération 0-100 m : 7,4 sec

what I find interesting is that scooters info are saying the mk4 tmax is slower than the previous 3 Tmax models ?StephenC wrote:The other way is to go to the Scoot Infos site and use their comparison feature to find the top speed and acceleration figures that they have recorded during road testing. So the Yamaha engineers were wasting their time , reducing the weight and increasing the cc's!
Luckily, I've still got my mk2 so over 100m, I can still whip your ass!
Although, personally, I think my mk4 is quicker

Not a real comparison 0 to 100m 50 mph to 70 mph times would be better comparison .

Re: YAMAHA TMAX 500 compared to a KAWASAKI J300
0-100m says more about the biting point of clutch and the shape of the CVT ramp than it does about the machine and it's torque or power output.
Also in almost all scooters at least 1-1.5 seconds of the 6.8 is spent stationary, waiting for launch.
0-100 metres measures nothing of value, except how similar a heavy scooter with more power is, to a lighter one with less. Before the rollers are messed with... although you should look at the terminal velocity figures to realise how fast the J300 is going to get left in the dust by the Tmax over the next second or two...
145km/h = 145*0.277777778 m / s = 40.28 m/s
175km/h = 175*0.277777778 m / s = 48.61 m/s
So at 100 mtrs, while both arrived at the same time, the TMax is already going more than 8 m /s quicker than the J300 and is already accelerating harder!
8.4 m/s is roughly 18.8 mph - or you wouldn't even get the time to wave goodbye to the Yam so fast is it already disappearing...

No door is closed to an open mind.
Except a closed door, which a mind can't open, but even a stupid hand can.

Re: YAMAHA TMAX 500 compared to a KAWASAKI J300
in my opinion to the OP forgetting everything said after the OP they are both great in there own ways .. they are not the same at all but just equally as much fun to ride as each other... saying something more on power to the tmax in my way of thinking yet a couple of grand cheaper would be the Kymco xciting 400i saw a vid on utube other day, standing quarter mile wooped the mk2 tmax but just lost out to the mk3 tmax... but this is not the real world of thinking or is it
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

Thanks Anonstarter for those links, I also found this http://www.visordown.com/road-tests/kaw ... 24977.html and they still like it.
A nice ride on my TMAX nearly ended in tears
when I nearly came a cropper on my TMAX with a low speed maneuvre whilst trying to find a way through the stationery cars and lorries on a packed roundabout - it all got a bit top heavy for me
Makes me think I really do need to get something more manageable.

Ah yes, I see there are some very good arguments as to why the figures don't mean much.
I knew that someone would prove that.
Bless.
