Re: BMW C600 Sport test ride

Went along to Astle's in Laceby to give the C600 sport a test ride. Had to wait a while for the rain to stop so had a chat with service manager and salesman. Neither of them had a clue about auto's but both had taken the 600 out. Both the Sport and the GT have the same size engine and same instruments. I thought the ride was very hard especially over some of the bad roads we have round here. Started getting pains in my back and hands due mainly to riding position on the sport. Found it uncomfortable not a lot could be done as there is no seat adjustment on the C600. Thought the folding underseat helmet storage naff and could be a problem. Build quality was poor with exposed screws and floppy plastic. The engine picked up well enough and seemed economical. Did not like the hand moveable screen would have prefered electric screen. Underseat heating was novel, thought the heated grips a nice touch. Electric lock on side stand was good but could prove to be a problem. The bike was easy to put on main stand for fuelling , liked the external fuel cap.Did not like single beam on dipped
If i was to buy a scoot from BMW I think it would be the GT. Looks better, adjustable seat and more storage. The price would be major problem. Starting price is £9700 the GP800 or recent rebadged replacement less than £8000. I think I might look around the continent or USA in a couple of years to find a more affordable price.

It's much more comfortable than a TMAX for me, the ride is more supple, better damped and the rear is adjustable. More legroom too. On London and Home Counties roads it copes admirably. I am 5'10" with a 31" leg and 11.5 stone. Having had it for a fortnight, I disagree with nearly everything you have said. I think you are criticising for criticism's sake. Oh, and I too am highly critical. The build quality is up there with the best, finish could be better.

I was quite impressed with the suspension on back roads - it was firm, but taut feeling and not harsh. The Tmax is somehow softer, but it can get unpleasantly bouncy on big bumps. There again, the different TMax models vary - the mk3 is notably firmer than the mk2, which had its quirks but was limo-like on big bumps. On my ride, my left arm began to ache (the shoulder I fractured in an accident 18 months ago), but I think that was most likely to being over tense on a 'foreign' bike and not relaxing properly. Yeah, more legroom than the mk3 - too much for me! Though mk2 was roomier I think.

As said I liked it , got some low back pain which i don't on the T Max . Its a lot Quicker of the mark and gathers speed nicely . My Lad preferred the Look of my T Max ( white Mk 3 ,dark screen and full akro) to the Silver C600 sport though I like the Beemers looks . I just could not justify the cost to change ie My 11 plate Mk 3 + £4350 . Maybe next year . You need an Akro on it though :)

Not sure about that...the engine makes a nice mechanical sound - wouldn't a deep exhaust just drown that out?
