Re: Ride Outs in General
The World has shrunk through the Internet and air-travel but, unfortunately, it hasn't shrunk in real terms.
The idea of monthly rideouts is great but somewhat impractical unless there's a small group living within 30 minutes or so of one-another who can effectively set off from 'home', i.e. the place that they are all close to.
When I lived in North London I met a group of X9ers every Saturday for breakfast. The venue was 20 minutes from my gaff so easy for me. Occasionally, other X9ers came from much further away but it was not practical for them to visit every week.
From time to time the group decided to go for a ride but the ride there and the meeting was enough as a rule.
I think another 'main' problem is that rideouts are of necessity usually at the weekends and the roads are getting busier and busier, at least round the Metropolitan areas, so don't lend themselves to riding for pleasure.

I think Waldorf says it very well. Look on the site for local members, its what I did. We aim for a ride once a month. Theres enough of us to make it likley to get two or three. This time of year people have family comitments. If I was setting up a local group now I would be starting with a view to a ride out in September to give people time. Don't be too ambitious on the distance.

Re: Ride Outs in General
I'd gladly go on rideouts, but there just isn't anyone anywhere near me, (not scoots anyway, although the local Yamahonduki outlet has an organised meet at a pub a few miles away).
One of the reasons for comeing on to the forum in the first place was to get informatino that I couldn't get anywhere else.
If there had a been a local club of any sort I would have joined in a spit, but nothing, so I'm glad to have virtual mates like this.

Hi Spike Where are you from then? And - Off topic this - What about the BSA Bantam. As the last Telegram Boy in Pontefract I spent a few years riding one around the five towns.

Cheltenhamshire. Born and bred.
Had the Bantam in 1974 I think it was. A G reg 175 D14/4. Easy to work on, and a good job too, cos it was always breaking down.
Used to take it apart on a Sunday just for fun. Always had a few bits left over.
When I sold it, there was more in the box than there was on the road.

Re: Ride Outs in General
It would seem to be a bit of a contentious issue this Ride out/Meet issue. I for one really enjoy them. I can't always go due to shifts. I've even organised one or two myself. Including the Rutland ride out.Which was a meet with a short ride as well.
Abe Lincoln said it best about pleasing some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time.
I like the idea of a once a year get together for all but I also like the small group rides. Perhaps venues like Squires, The Shed or Matlock bath could be used
I just hope we have enough of us to keep going and maybe all get together now and then.
Ginge.
