I think that if its a success it is likely to drive the price of other scooters up.
Top of the range, bottom of the range, these are meaningless, look at the material and the manufacturing.
Any car is a lot more product than a scooter.

What I want to know is, when are Kymco going to import the MyRoad 700 into the UK?!

C'mon GN2, you must be pretending to be that naive

You must know the price is set by how many they will sell. straightforward economy of scale
sell millions=you can charge less
sell a handfull= you must charge more

That his how you cover you costs
BMW are known for putting more time and effort into R&D than most -that is expensive
They have european staff - expensive
They can't share the platform and has many marque specific parts = expensive
Then the usual tooling costs, training techs etc.

Lets say that lot costs 500 shiny Necklesses (SN)
if they sell a hundred the price is 6 necklesses each, if they sell 500,000 the price is one bead each
Sell fewer and less of the cost is materials, more of it about set up and development

As for driving the price up, I don't know if you have noticed but BMW make expensive cars too - so how come you can still find cheap new cars if that is the mechanism that drives up prices?

Pricing isn't about "pay for the materials and then pluck a profit figure out of the air"

Edit: Openmind posted at the same time and managed to say it in far fewer words - more of the same material is cheaper than rare

Like the 3-series, which is now more common than the Mondeo. (Well, according to Top Gear, anyway).

Don't want to worry you but I've just been reading some early C650GT owner's reports on Scooter Station - two out of three have had oil leaks, and one was complaining that some of the plastic bits on the handlebars were already knackered!

Could you either post the link or pm it to me? I'd be interested in reading it. Still not too bothered, as that's what we have a warranty for. If it misbehaves it'll get traded for a new tmax in a year or so.

True, but it is not the same product.
A maxi scooter and a car are the same product, personal transportation systems.
What I can't get my head around with the TGS (made mostly in the far east) is why it's massively more expensive than a Honda Silverwing.

Thanks, I'd already read those and none of them concerned me. I do expect to be a bit of a guinea pig.
