Jim you must have some pretty viscous bumps where you live. What position is your rear suspension on? Can you not raise it a bit?

I'm a little disturbed by the thought of viscous bumps

. It's bad enough riding over a bump, but when its viscous as well it must take extra effort to get over.
Maybe even a little tyre drag

.

Putting the suspension on highest setting solved my speed bump issues. On mine it would ground out on very small bumps on the factory setting.

a) Is the stand definately retracting all the way back up?
b) Is it any better taking the bumps below 60mph

I have one of those motorcycle repair lifts that has a pretty steep ramp to get up onto the table. On my 650, it's always the exhaust that scrapes when riding up onto it, not the stand.

Woo...hooo! Splendid wuffstuff! I'm excited for you too...errr...don't take that the wrong way will ya. I'd be interested to know what you think of it by comparison to your 400. I've ridden the 650 several times but that was an 08 plate. It's been refined since then. Go get and enjoy!

The new 400 Burgman is now a new 650 Burgman. Quite a difference. The 650 makes the memory of the 400 feel like a toy. It seems much better put together, more solid somehow. The extra seat height is helpful as is the vastly more responsive throttle. On the downside it does feel very hard on the road. I can feel every vibration through the front suspension even though the rear is set on the default of 2. Maybe it just need some settling down.
I picked it up at 10:30 this morning and then went for a scrubbing-in ride of 112 miles at low speed and rpm's less than 4000. I noted though that the scoot will do 60 mph at less than 4000, not that I kept that speed up for more than 200 yards.
At low speeds it seems easier to control, though I'm not sure why, Maybe the low centre of gravity. Cornering seems about the same; maybe truer in and out. It is much, much, smoother on the throttle. Definitely easier to pull away, though at the moment there is a jus a hint of throttle lag. Perhaps that will wear off after running in. One big difference is the slowing down. Shut off the throttle and it virtually stops immediately. Engine braking is really quite strong and hardly any application of the brakes is required to stop. At the same time this can cause hopping at medium to slow speeds.
Overall, well worth the extra cost. I just wish I'd bought this one to start with.
