Its definatly worth trying a plug if it hasnt had one recently .Ive never had a plug go always jut changed them now and again but when I picked up Helix from Lyn he had started it before I got there and had trouble when I got there it started OK we had a cuppa he insisted I rode it and nothing no spark was just about to rip panels off to get at coil and I said lets try another plug that one sparked so off to get a new one that would fit started first press and has done ever since

bike has only done 5000 miles from new and i never had a case where a plug failed without an underlying reason, but it's worth trying anyway. At the end of the day, i could have had a faulty spark plug from beginning...

Or as Data suggested, starting the bike up without waiting for the initial booting sequence could have messed with the ignition and air/fuel ratios over time, causing the spark plug to become faulty eventually.

We'll see, once i get the new plug delivered.

New plug arrived today, came home, swapped the old with the new, prayed and turned the key, pressed the starter... And it bursts to life with no hesitation whatsoever. I'm sooo happy, as if it was my birthday

Not only will i save myself a lot of money but also i wont have to drag it all the way to the dealers, and more importantly, i wont have to bear the horrendous trains anymore.

However i'm not completely convinced that a spark plug just managed to become defective within 5000 miles of riding with no other underlying cause, so if this event repeats itself, i'm going to have to get it checked properly. But at least i can have a temporary fix by carrying a spare plug with me so that i wouldnt be stranded on the road due to the same fault.

I highly doubt that it was the mileage or faulty production of spark plug but i wish it was just as simple as that...

Now its rideable may be just pay for a plug in diagnostic session at dealer

When you dont have to be anywhere in a hurry,just try the old plug.It could be..

It's very easy to damage a plug, the insulator, the white bit can crack which causes the spark to track down to the base. look very carefully at the one you've taken out.
If it's running fine, the diagnostic session will be a waste of time.

I did up a mates Honda cd200 last summer and as part of the job i did a service new plugs ect..i ran the bike to re-tune the carb because i had rejetted it so i no it ran ok.
Weeks latter after doing all the other work the barstuard had a missfire, i spent yonks looking for what it could be. I bought a new coil, leads and rewired the bu**er..
Yep it was one of the NEW plugs had failed....chuft i pulled the clutch in, dropped it into first gear and shot across the yard...The bl**dy clutch had gone, and that too was working fine weeks before.
SO it DOES happen.
