I don't believe that it makes the slightest bit of difference during the day, and probably, the hiviz bit, not at night either. I do, however, think that the reflective strips are hugely beneficial at night. Certainly when I see bikers wearing them at night, they stick out like a soar thumb in the headlights many hundreds of yards ahead.
Thinking about it has made me question whether I really need to wear it during the day. On the other hand, will it do any harm - probably not...

I think that just about sums it up really, personally will not wear a hiviz vest not now or in the future. Might wear some reflective striping/ belt for night time use as I do think that is effective in those circumstances

If you wanted to avoid being seen, would it generally be wisest to select a dark or a Hi-vis oufit?

To be fair, I did mention stylish, which also applies to the pic.

Weirdly though, although I won't wear it myself ** I think it looks quite stylish when incorporated into bike gear like some of the textile jackets with hi-vis panels. It's for other folk to look stylish in though. A mate rides his scooter in a pink pudding basin helmet and high heeled womens' boots (actually bought from a transvestite shop for the size but womens' style anyway) and pulls it off...but I couldn't.
