Theoretically, it would also depend on the final gearing. My 250 bounces readily off the rev limiter when there is still a good bit of go left from the motor.

X10-350 88mph, 7.4s, 4.2 l/100km
Maxsym 90mph, 7.9s, 4.6 l/100km
Burger 400 91mph, 7.8s, 5.2 l/100km
Satelis 400 (Master engine) 94mph, 7.2s, 4.7 l/100km.

Looks like the X10's smaller capacity pays off in fuel consumption, and the lardy Burger and Maxsym lose out off the line. And although gearing is unknown, the slippery Satelis pulls away on max speed.

They certainly look to confirm the idea that the new 350 delivers better economy and nigh-on 400cc performance - but are these manufacturer claimed numbers do you know or Scoot Infos test results?

Those fuel figures are way out.... surely? My Burger and datas do way more mpg than 5.2l per 100km, thats around 55mpg!!!

Reckon they relate to a lot of stop start in town or something but even then I get 73mpg or there abouts in heavy town traffic and around 85mpg if I keep to 60..ish! I wonder if those are full throttle track test comsumption figures. But even that doesn't ring true.

They aren't figures for the pre 2007 burger are they?

My mpg is in the 80's somewhere (series L0)

I flog it and get 65+ but out of interest have tried the "touch of a midwife" and 80 mpg is easily achievable.

Just got it I think. The figures are calculated on US gallons...3.6 litres per gallon. Reckon that's it as it seems to fit nearer to what some might get to the gallon. Stephen, where did you get the figs from?

Nope these are from a French scooter website and quoted in litres per 100km (62 miles), which is standard European fuel measure. It's common that normal users achieve far higher actual mpg than journo test levels, if that's what these are.

The actual quoted consumption is less the issue than the relative differences between the different models listed, assuming the level of inaccuracy is consistent this at least suggests the new 350 does deliver 10-20% better mpg.

Yep, I see what you are saying Poldark. I don't think there is any doubt the 330 Piaggio is capable of out performing the 400's regarding fuel economy if ridden sensibly. But beyond a certain speed and load point it will have to work too hard to match them. What I'm more interested in is how you can get a Burgman 400 to go so low with it's fuel economy. MINE MUST BE FAULTY!!!...it's doing too many miles per gallon. Oh, I'm covered under warranty I guess for that... I've never seen and have never been able to get mine to go lower than 72mpg and that was on a fairly mad wring it's neck ride which included some lengthy 75 to 85mph work on a private section of the A14 and very mixed riding on all sorts of roads, including getting caught in Ipswich town centre rush hour traffic for half an hour. Even my scooter couldn't cut a swath through it. Interesting figures, but we need the rest of the information that goes with the figures to tell us how these were obtained. It could be these figures were obtained by bench testing the engines for example at full throttle. That's something we do and would produce some low figures like that. Hey ho! I partly bought my B400 because it is a class leader in fuel economy, but maybe there is something else I need to know...or, I guess I'll be best off selling it and getting one that does less mile per gallon...
