Very useful if you can find a dealer to fix it!wozza wrote:Plus a 3 year warranty.
My Joyride 200 engine light and noisy dash are entering their 2nd year of being faulty, the warranty ends in October this year.

I would dearly love to organise a test ride, but my soon to be released 'MaxSymum Respect' Road show does not cover your geographical area.....
Get a cheap flight and pop over, we would love to meet you@

The Daelim S3 250 is without doubt the best machine out there at that price or indeed several hundred pounds more!gn2 wrote:Badge snobbery means Sym will always struggle untill the brand becomes widely known and trusted.
Dropping the price might not be enough either.
Daelim can knock out the S3 Advance 250 for less than the cost of many 125s and despite the amazing price it still doesn't sell well.
There's an almost unused one for £2500 available just now.....
Has to be worth a punt, come on Muppets, somebody buy a Daelim
The brand is being pushed by the manufacturer and importer at silly low margins in the hope that generically it will grow in the marketplace

I pointed out it had done 12,000km without a single fault before I realised what he was talking about:gn2 wrote:Badge snobbery means Sym will always struggle untill the brand becomes widely known and trusted.
Yup - the owner of the shop thought SYM was a Chinese scooter...
TBH I couldn't really blame him - if they are never at any shows and kept in a secret location up north - how is anyone going to know? SYM sounds oriental and with no attempt from marketing to educate anyone that perception will continue. Still it keeps resale values low, bad for me but good for some!
How many 'shows' have you been to in the last ten years?
Which ones?
And what other scooter makes were there?

Globs wrote:Today I got in contact with MotorCycle Live and the very lovely Penny gave me the lowdown on the costs, which is cheaper if SYM is a member of the MCI (Motor Cycle Industry Association), else it is about £110/m2 for non-member trade space for the show duration, with stands starting at 3m x 3m (9m2) - or £990. A motorcycle club (fancy making a club?) is £601 (or free if you sell 100 tickets to your members) instead for that sizeData wrote:I will say to Globs, that renting space at the NEC and other exhibition centres is very costly for small firms. We exhibited at an engineering show some years ago and it cost us £18k for just a very small area.
3m x 3m is not huge - perhaps two bikes + 1-2 staff, maybe the Maxsym 300 and the Allo 125cc but it's under £1000 - not huge money.

34 models in th UK line up! How can a MAJOT manufacturer look credible with a space no bigger than a shed?
MMmmm
What cost is that?
10 day duration
!0 staff to cover all models
Logistics moving all those machines around
Stand Space not peanuts - need 10 x 15 m
Stand Build £25k plus on top of above
Please please please, I have done this for 25 years at the NEC, why try to tell me how to do my job?
Minimum £80 thousand pounds.....
Divided across say 2000 units sold in uk per year....
Adds £40 per unit sold....... That is before any other marketing costs....
SYMply not worth it
Look at equivalent EICMA or Cologne costs,,,,
Our potential customers can go there to see a far far better show, a well booked flight is no more than the NEC parking ticket.....
Birmingham Council are ripping us senseless (I think) or MCI are taking the piss........ Ask Steve Kenward
NEC is too dear, end of!

Re: Maxsym 600
With reference to the comments regarding the price of the Sym 600 and the Honda Silverwing there is indeed a £1000 difference in price in favour of the Sym. However speaking as someone who recently traded in a Sym Joyride 200i for a new Silverwing I can say that the price for the Honda was negotiable in as much as I got £500 more for my Sym than I was offered at a Sym dealership and the extras included were worth in excess of £400 pounds whereas I was only offered a straight deal on the Sym. For me having owned three Syms ( the first two I really enjoyed the Evo not so much) it is refreshing to now have a scoot with so much product information available I even have a workshop manual which after the Syms is a complete novelty.

Warranty is still dependant upon main dealer servicing though...
Thanks for the constructive sriticism

Not really sure what your 'ps' refers to, 'cos there's quite a few Silver Wing riders on here already, as well as some with other Honda models.SYMUK wrote: ps, why does Honda not join the forum?
Maybe it's 'cos Honda's don't often go wrong?

You are confusing credibility with your own ego.SYMUK wrote:How can a MAJOT manufacturer look credible with a space no bigger than a shed?
In the biking world you are a minnow, many people have never even heard of SYM.
If you have zero presence at shows that is hardly going to change is it?
Why on earth do you think you deserve or need a stand you can't afford? Because SYM is big in Taiwan?
Your beliefs don't alter the fact that for under £1000 SYM could gain exposure and sales, the only thing preventing that is you.
I wouldn't worry what I think though, I'm just someone who buys and runs new scooters on a regular basis.
