Agreed. I felt the hostility of the guards completely ruined any atmosphere Stonehenge ever had. Go to Avebury if you want to see standing stones without paying, and without the police state overtones. There is even a pub there - much better!!

An alternative to the Land's End ripoff could be Lizard Point. It's good to get to, great cliff views, a walk down to a rocky beach, spectacular if there's a wind blowing. Good cafe with excellent ice cream. Not too much parking there but it's free! And, unlike t'other place, it really is the most southerly point on the mainland.

If you live in Cornwall you can get a free "Local's Pass" that gives you 50% off the "attractions" and free parking.
